Borussia Dortmund Face Stiff Opening Test
Borussia M’gladbach played above their heads in 2014-2015 to the surprise of many Bundesliga fans. They burst out of the gates with a 10-game winning streak before tapering off for a stretch. But then they perked up in the business end of the season, going on to lose just one of their last 12 games as they clinched third place behind a 19-9-6 mark and 66 points. Just 13 points behind champions Bayern Munich and three points behind second-placed Wolfsburg.

Some of their minor struggles in Bundesliga last season are down to the challenge of adapting to campaigns on multiple fronts. UEFA Europa League action took a lot out of them. That said that experience bodes well for the coming season.

By contrast, Borussia Dortmund’s season was dizzyingly topsy-turvy. At one point during the winter months they were hobnobbing in the relegation pit, bottom two in Germany’s top flight which was shocking to say the least of a side that just a few years back was taking it to some of the best clubs in Europe’s top flight. In the second half of the season, however, Jurgen Klopp and his Black and Yellows bounced back spectacularly and clawed their way into seventh place with a 13-7-14 mark and 46 points. Unfortunately, the season ended with Jurgen Klopp parting ways with his beloved Borussia Dortmund where he was the man in charge for the last seven years.

Former Mainz manager Thomas Tuchel is set to lead Borussia Dortmund into the new season. He’s got big shoes to fill. Under Klopp, BVB won the Bundesliga in 2011 and 2012, the DFB Pokal in 2012 and the DFB Super Cup in 2008, 2013 and 2014. As well, they were the runners-up to Bayern Munich in the Champions League 2012-2013.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Borussia M’gladbach Preview and Picks
Tuchel has overseen a rather auspicious pre-season with his Black and Yellows winning five of their six club friendlies, three of which included clean sheets: 5-0 over Rhede, 6-0 over Kawasaki Frontale and 2-0 over Juventus. Since the win over Juve in July, BVB have gone through UEFA Europa League qualifying with a 6-0 aggregate over Wolfsberger AC and they are still alive in DFB Pokal with a 2-0 win over Chemnitzer FC.

That good form all around has lent itself to a rather favourable outlook for their opener against Borussia M’gladbach. p to win outright while the draw is set at a rather high +275 price tag.

After a rather rocky start to the preseason friendly action going 1-1-1 in the first three games, Borussia M’gladbach bounced back to go undefeated in the remaining four games and finish 4-2-1 overall. Last weekend, they got DFB Pokal underway with 4-1 win over St. Pauli on the away. Still, odds makers aren’t buying what Borussia M’gladbach are selling under Lucien Favre, sending them into their highly anticipated season opener as the decided underdogs at +400 soccer odds on the Bundesliga betting board.

Clearly, odds makers havrather one-sided take on this game. It’s anything but, however. There’s lots to like about both teams; they are offensive-minded and figure to be a couple of the best teams in Germany’s top flight this season. Challenging Bayern Munich for the title is going to be a tough ask, but these two sides are sure to be mired in the battle for top spots and direct entry into Champions League next season. That’s why this is going to be a pivotal clash that each will want to win. Probably, a lot closer than the odds makers would have us believe.

Borussia Dortmund have the home advantage and at -138 soccer odds they do appear tempting. But we’re just not ready to write off Borussia M’gladbach entirely so we’re banking on the draw at +275 as our free soccer pick.

Soccer Picks: Draw +275 at Bet365

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":2874781, "sportsbooksIds":[43], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]
