If you're wanting to back Dortmund, you're going to have to cough up a pretty penny. Soccer odds are hovering around -300 to get the three points, with Augsburg at +900 or so and a draw ranging from +400 to +500, depending on the sportsbook.
Just one year after giving Bayern Munich a run for their money, BVB's league form has fallen off dramatically.
Dortmund is currently in fourth place in the standings, behind Bayern, Bayer Leverkusen and even Borussia Monchengladbach. BVB has failed to win in any of their latest three Bundesliga matches, so they desperately need a victory this Saturday.
Their last time in action, Dortmund lost 1-2 at home to Hertha Berlin. Marco Reus scored in the seventh minute in what was a dream start, but then BVB gave up two goals before halftime and couldn't recover.
It was yet another setback in what's been a tumultuous season for Dortmund. They have little to no chance of catching Bayern, who are 12 points ahead right now, but they could still grab that second spot, considering they're only five points behind Leverkusen.
Once a fortress, Signal Iduna Park hasn't been home to such dominance this term. Dortmund has already lost three times at home – surely they can avoid a fourth defeat this weekend, right?
Quietly, Augsburg is having a solid campaign in 2013/14. They're in the eighth spot in the Bundesliga, a dramatic improvement from last year when they finished 15th.
A recent surge in form has been key to FCA's success, as they've gone unbeaten in five straight league matches after a loss to Bayern Munich on November 9th.
Before the winter break, Augsburg finished at a 1-1 deadlock away to Eintracht Frankfurt. Raul Marcelo Bobadilla scored the goal for the visitors, only his second of the league campaign so far.
For those unfamiliar with the makeup of Augsburg's squad, they've gotten six Bundesliga goals from Andre Hahn and five out of Halil Altintop. Tobias Werner leads the team with four assists thus far.
FCA has been very poor away from home and that's putting it nicely. They have two wins, two draws and five losses to their name in nine matches and have scored a paltry six total goals in that span. We're going to go out on a limb here and say it's not looking good for them this weekend.
Given Dortmund's recent poor play, you have to figure they're due to bounce back with a great effort sooner rather than later.
What better time than at home against a side that BVB has already beaten once this season? Dortmund was in total control in their 4-0 win over FCA back in the first playday, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring a hat-trick and Robert Lewandowski also getting in on the action with a penalty.
When you also take into account Augsburg's terrible away form, we feel we have no other choice but to back a straightforward win for BVB on Saturday. You may, however, want to take the hosts on a handicap in order to get better value with your free soccer picks.
