Let’s take a quick, thumbnail sketch previews for two mid-week matches and offer up some picks with our full 10-match Week 12 Rundown to follow in this space on Wednesday.

There are two games on tap on Wednesday night in MLS, both enticing Eastern Conference affairs between David Villa and NYCFC and Sebastian Giovinco and Toronto FC at BMO Field in Toronto along with another match featuring Big Apple area club when the the New York Red Bulls play host to the Chicago Fire in Harrison, New Jersey in a series which has historically seen an awful lot of goals—and a total of 5, 9 and 7 the L3 times these two played at Red Bull Arena. Let’s take a quick, thumbnail sketch previews for these two mid-week matches and offer up some soccer picks with our full 10-match Week 12 Rundown to follow in this space on Wednesday.

Toronto FC vs. NYCFC
With New York City Football club just joining the MLS last season, these two clubs have only played four times (NYC 2-2 TOR, NYC 2-0 TOR, NYC 4-4 TOR, TOR 0-2 NYC) with the expansion club from The Bronx surprisingly doing very well against TFC, going an unbeaten 2-2-0 (W-D-L) against the Reds and registering two Clean Sheets. But soccer odds have it right here with Toronto (4-2-4, 13 GF-11 GA) now finally back at Home after starting the season with 8 straight Road games.

Last weekend, the Reds lost 4-3 to the Vancouver Whitecaps, while NYCFC (4-4-3, 17 GF-16 GA) won its 2nd straight match, upsetting the defending MLS Cup champion Timbers at Providence Park in Portland, 2-1. The Weather Channel’s Forecast for Toronto on Wednesday evening calls for Partly Cloudy skies, a Low of 46° with NW Winds of 5-10 mph, so a little bit chilly, especially for mid-May, but not the end of the world.

The feel here is of a NYCFC (20/1 to win MLS Cup, bet365) club heading into this one feeling good after W2 straight but running into a Toronto FC (20/1 to win MLS Cup, bet365) Home side bitter about just losing to its new Canadian rivals (Vancouver) and well aware that they haven’t beaten this NYCFC side in four lifetime tries.

And with David Villa (8 goals), Thomas McNamara (3 goals) and the visitors able to score twice in Portland and Sebastian Giovinco (8 goals) and hosts TFC coming off a Loss in which it scored 3 goals in its last outing, the Both Teams To Score (‘Yes’ -162, Ladbrokes) Prop looks the the most logical approach for those with access to that marketplace. And with the Reds (1-0-1, 4 GF-4 GA Home) desperate for a Win and all 3 points in this particular spot, expect a top-notch effort from the hosts who were 11-1-5, (34-GF-22 GA) at Home at BMO Field in Toronto last MLS season.

Who: New York Red Bulls vs. Chicago Fire
This series has been a series of goals of late (CHI 1-2 NY, NY 3-2 CHI, CHI 3-2 NY, CHI 1-0 NY, NY 4-5 CHI) with the Over 6-1 in the L7 meetings—the Over is 9-3 in the L12 overall—and an gaudy average of 4.60 gpg being scored in the L5 games with the Home side winning 4 of the 5 and the Fire scoring in all five of those meetings and in 9 straight against this franchise.

With Kennedy Igboananike (4 goals), David Accam (2 goals) and 10th-place Chicago (1-4-4, 8 GF-12 GA) struggling and on the Road and having just one Win to date and Bradley Wright-Phillips (3 goals), Mike Grella (3) and Brazilian Felipe (3 goals) and the 8th-place (Eastern Conference) Red Bulls (3-1-7, 13 GF-20 GA) desperately needing the Win not only for the 3 points but for their Heads as well, expect RBNY (20/1 to win MLS Cup, bet365) and GK Luis Robles to play one of their better games of the season against the Fire (200/1 to win MLS Cup, 888sport) here at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night.

The Weather Forecast midweek here calls for Clouds early giving way to Clear conditions, a Low of 50° with N Winds of 5-10 mph, so, a little bit brisk for May, but not enough to make it miserable for the players who play in two of the three biggest cities in the US and are very used to the bitter Cold weather and probably don’t mind 50°.

Historically, the Fire (28-10-16, 92 GF-70 GA) have done very well against the Red Bulls, but Chicago has slipped much since those glory years and with the L3 meetings here in Harrison, New Jersey seeing 5, 9 and 7 goals being scored and both teams scoring by Half in all three, backing both the hosts and Over seems like really good ideas here.
