The Spurs are looking for their first victory since the All-Star break and will try to break out of their three game slide in Portland but can this perennial powerhouse cash in our NBA picks tonight?

San Antonio Spurs (34-22 SU, 23-31-2 ATS)
The defending champs look like a different team on the road this season registering a 14-15 mark and have cost their backers a few bucks as well going 13-16 ATS in NBA odds when they take to the highway. In the comfortable confines of the AT & T Center they have averaged 104.3 points per game but when their adoring masses are absent and they play in hostile territory that average plummets to 97 points per game. Normally when the rodeo comes to San Antonio and the Spurs must vacate the premises they have fared well but this season they are a dismal 2-4 straight up but an absolute money burning 1-5 ATS in NBA odds. San Antonio has three more games left on what will be a 28-day road trek when their tour of duty is finished and will follow this contest up with a date in Sacramento on Friday.

After dropping a 119-115 shootout to the Clippers as 2 ½ point betting favorites in NBA odds last Thursday the Spurs traveled the following day to the home of the Golden State Warriors and even though the oddsmakers spotted them 7 ½ points they were still unable to cover the NBA odds and dribbled out of town with a 110-99 defeat. After getting three days of rest San Antonio visited the woeful Utah Jazz and not only failed to cover the 5 ½ point impost they lost outright 90-81. Tonight they hope to shake off their funk and claim a victory over a potential playoff opponent.

Portland Trailblazers (36-19 SU, 27-27-1 ATS)
As vexed as the Spurs have been so too have the Trailblazers. Portland, like their opponents tonight, have gone winless since the All-Star break with straight-up losses and failed covers to both the Jazz and Grizzlies. Since a sizzling start that saw them boast the second best record in the NBA on January 11th the Blazers have gone 6-11 straight-up and 5-12 ATS in NBA odds. Portland finds themselves still leading the Northwest Division but have fallen to 4th in the Western Conference playoff standings.

If there is any good news for the Trailblazers and their fans it is that four-time All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge has been upgraded to probable to join his teammates tonight. Aldridge was scratched from the club’s last game Sunday night against Memphis with a sprain to his right thumb which is in addition to the ailing ligament in his left thumb. Aldridge has done serious damage to the Spurs this season recording 23 points and 14 boards in their first meeting on December 15th which resulted in a 108-95 home victory and followed that up in their second meeting only four days later with 32 points and 16 rebounds in what proved to be a triple overtime thriller with Portland pocketing a 129-119 road win.

Tonight’s NBA Pick
At best the Blazers will trot out an ailing LaMarcus Aldridge and at worst will see Meyers Leonard take the floor in his stead. Either way the Spurs should be able to take advantage but will have to contend with Arron Afflalo who was recently acquired by the Trailblazers via Denver. Afflalo registered a total of 52 points in two games against San Antonio when he toiled for the Nuggets and will come off the bench to help the cause tonight in a Portland uniform.

This is a case of two very good teams struggling and it will be interesting to see how this one plays out. San Antonio is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings against Portland so we will grab the points for our NBA pick, with the defending champs against a Portland team that could be without the services of a crucial component in LaMarcus Aldridge or with him at far less than one-hundred percent.

Free NBA Pick: Play San Antonio +3 at Pinnacle Sports

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":339000, "sportsbooksIds":[19,43,227,1096,999996,93,238,123,139], "LineTypeId":5, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]
