On Sunday, July 12th, Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club will host Sporting KC, and this sports handicapper is recommending to bet on the Draw, priced at +220 odds.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Sporting KC
TSN1, MLS Live, KMCI-38 (USA): 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT
The Vancouver Whitecaps play host to upstart Sporting KC in this MLS Week 21 Western Conference battle on Sunday night in British Columbia. With both teams so talented and the match meaning so much is betting the Draw and hoping for a 0-0, 1-1 or maybe 2-2 scoreline the best approach here? Or is making a pick on the Road Underdogs Sporting KC maybe a better idea with them looking up at the hosts in the Western Conference standings and maybe needing the Win more?

The Western Conference’s 2nd-place team, the Vancouver Whitecaps (10-2-7, 23 GF-19 GA) welcome 6th-place Sporting KC (7-6-3, 25 GF-17 GA) in this MLS Week 21 showdown from BC Place in Vancouver on Sunday night. Soccer odds makers have made the host Whitecaps +110 favorites here over visiting SKC (+229) with the Draw priced at +220 (bet365). The Total Goals has been set at 2½, with the vigorish priced at -125 for prospective Under bettors and at -110 for Over bettors (Paddy Power)). Some Props wagers for this weekend game from the Canadian province of British Columbia: Both Teams To Score: ‘Yes’ -142, ‘No’ +110 (Ladbrokes); Draw No Bet: Whitecaps -187, Sporting KC +137 (bet365); and, To Win To Nil: Whitecaps +275, Sporting KC +500 (bet365, Paddy Power).

Sporting Kansas City
In their last game of soccer, The Team Formerly Known as The Kansas City Wizards (1-3-3 Away, 9 GF-12 GA) smoked FC Dallas, 6-2, but that Fourth of July celebration was in US Open Cup play and not in the MLS. So, SKC should be confident about scoring a goal or two for this big game north of the border where many the residents pray to some God named Tim Horton. And Sporting KC can score the Goals, and don’t be deceived by the 25 they have at this point—the thing to look at is the number of games (16) Sporting KC has only played compared to other teams like the LA Galaxy (21). Quirks in scheduling can make a great team like 6th-place SKC seem like they are falling out of it or slipping, when in reality they are just not playing some weeks (like this with that aforementioned US Open Cup Round of 16 game vs. FC Dallas). A smart soccer handicapper will use that to his or her advantage. And then pray. On Offense, SKC is led by Krisztián Németh (7 goals), Dom Dwyer (5 goals), Benny Feilhaber (5 goals), Ike Opara (2 goals) and the valuable Graham Zusi (1 goal) who just returned from a Concussion. And, with GK Rime Melia, this team has allowed an MLS-low 17 Goals (tied with the San Jose Earthquakes), but again, it’s important to remember the league-low 16 games Sporting KC has played when weighing that statistical reality also.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC
The Vancouver Whitecaps (4-1-3 Home, 13 GF-11 GA) have done a lot of travelling lately, playing (and upsetting a 17-game Home Unbeaten Streak, 2-1) the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts on the Road and then flying south to the Rocky Mountains to face the Colorado Rapids in Week 20 action on Saturday night, a game the Whitecaps lost 2-1 after falling behind three minutes in. Vancouver (14/1 to win MLS Cup, BetVictor) is led on Offense by 23-year-old Uruguayan striker Octavio Rivero (7 goals), Kekuta Manneh (4 goals), Chilean MF Pedro Morales (4 goals), Darien Mattocks (3 goals)—on loan from Spanish La Liga’s Málaga and a very nice addition to the Whitecaps roster who was named MLS Newcomer of the Year two weeks ago—Cristian Techera (2 goals) and Gershon Koffie (1 goal), among others. In goal, GK David Ousted—who was named MLS Player of the Month for June—is a big reason this teams sits in the #2 spot out West but expect him to really be tested here against this talented Sporting KC side.

Current Form, Series Trends, Conclusions
Lifetime, Sporting KC is 2-2-1 (9 GF-8 GA) against the Whitecaps and here in Vancouver —where Ogopogo does laps around Lake Okanagan when he’s bored—SKC is 1-1-1 (6 GF-6 GA), so if there ever were signs to bet the Draw there you have them. Almost dead even all-time against each other and playing in a game which is very important for both sides, maybe more so for the visitors from the USA who surprisingly sit in 6th place in the Western Conference with 27 points (2nd-place Vancouver has 32 points), despite being tied (with the LA Galaxy now) for having the best Goal Differential (+8) in the entire MLS. Go figure. Or maybe better yet, don’t go figure. Little makes sense in the MLS and teams can go from 7th to 2nd in the blink of an eye and go from “out of it” to “contenders to win the MLS Cup” just as fast. Two of the L5 meetings have ended in Draws, with SKC being shut out (2-0) the last time they played in Vancouver (last season). And, 4 of the L5 meetings have seen the ‘Yes’ in the Both Teams To Score Prop soccer pick collect (VAN 2-0 SKC, SKC 1-1 VAN, VAN 1-3 SKC, SKC 2-1 VAN, VAN 3-3 SKC).

PREDICTED FINAL SCORE: Whitecaps 1 Sporting KC 1

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER PICKS: Draw +220 (bet365), Under 2½ -125 (Paddy Power)
