The New Year starts with a live London derby on Sunday when Premier League strugglers Chelsea make the short trip across London to face city rivals Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

If any of you have been to a Palace home match they are one of the most vocal and passionate support in England and with lots of New Years cheer this is a tough one for the visitors.

The champions are just 2.15 with PaddyPower's soccer odds to start the New Year with a win and even though they are the champions of England that really is a price that is totally wrong on the two sides current form.

Guus Hiddink has moved into the Stamford Bridge hot-seat  to steady a sinking ship and results have improved only slightly.

A home win against Sunderland, followed by two draws at home to Watford and at Old Trafford against Man United are still along way off the high standards that the fans are expecting.

Just two wins in their last seven and no away success since October is not the kind of form that you want to be taking at short odds and the layers have over estimated their chances of victory on Sunday.

The Blues' torrid season started to turn in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge when they were beaten 2-1 by this young Eagles side and they will have their supporters for sure at a massive 4.0 with Bet Victor to do an unprecedented double over the champions.

The team-news isn't good for the home side though and that's what puts me off a wager with key men Yannick Bolasie and Yohan Cabaye both expected to miss the match through injury and without that pair it's hard to see where the goals are going to be created from.

Out of the two sides Palace are the much better form side with just one defeat in their last nine matches and I don't think they will lose this on Sunday and the draw is the best bet in the match markets if you wanted to have a small play at the 3.50 Premier League odds with Sportingbet.
Both Chelsea and Palace have drawn their last two matches and I'm certain both managers would settle for a points now if it was offered to them.

The best bet in the game though is on a lack of goals and I'm all over the under 2.5 goals markets in this London derby at generally 1.72 with most of the bookies and that really looks the banker bet in the match.

Four of the last five Eagles' matches have seen less than 2.5 goals settled as a winner and it's also been the case in five of the last seven in this fixture and goals are expected to be at a premium with big players missing for both sides. With goals not expected I'm going to also have a very small play on no goalscorer in the match at the rather large 9.50 which is with William Hill.

The last two Palace matches have both ended goalless and Chelsea could still be playing now and they wouldn't have scored in their last match against Man United at Old Trafford and that looks a decent bet for your soccer picks to start the New Year with.
