One of the best defences against one of the worst attacks can only mean one thing can't it? William Hill's Lee Phelps answers that and picks out the best odds for his free betting pick.

Southampton take on Hull this weekend, with the Saints occupying the bottom place in the fictional Top Seven table and the Tigers desperately grasping for points to stay out of the bottom three. Interestingly since February 1st, Southampton have taken only two points more (11) than Hull City (nine) and have played an additional game.

Southampton
The Saints have a great recent record against their opponents which is why soccer odds made them a home favorite for this fixture, winning seven of the last eight, with Hull without a win there in 12 trips. It’s not all rosy for Ronald Koeman’s men though and there have been signs the season is a bit too long for them.

They have scored only five goals in their last nine Premier League matches, with Graziano Pelle goal-less since December 20th, despite playing 14 games in that period. He did score for Italy against England and looked close to a goal in their game at Everton.

The defence has been great though and they can still boast the second best record at home in the division, behind Chelsea, with just 10 goals conceded.

Hull City
Hull have collected just two points from their last five league matches and that is why they find themselves on 28 points, just two above QPR. If results go badly this weekend, they could be in the bottom three. To be fair their goal difference is the best of any of the bottom six.

Goals are proving very hard to come by, especially without Nikica Jelevic. City have failed to score in 13 of their last 23 league matches. This stat amazes me, so much so, I can scarcely believe it is true: Hull have created only 20 clear cut chances in the Premier League this season, fewer than any other team.

Given those stats, there’s no way Steve Bruce is sending his team out on the South Coast to outscore their hosts. They will go for a draw and be delighted if they come away with a point.

Soccer pick
It seems a no-brainer to suggest one of the worst away attacks versus one of the best home defences will result in a game low on goals. You won’t be surprised to hear the bookmakers are on to that as well, with the best price for under 2.5 only 1.7.

I think Southampton will score, because Hull have conceded in all but one of their last 11 away games, so it has to be the home win and under 2.5 goals for my soccer pick.

Free Soccer Pick: Southampton win and under 2.5 goals: 3.0 (2/1)
