To start this week, we welcome in Belmont Park, which finally opened on Wednesday and will have great horse racing action over the next several weeks.
Glad to see Belmont Park back in action and we have four of their biggest races on Thursday to follow which includes the Tiller Stakes. Belmont usually attracts some of the best horses, riders, and trainers for their meet.
We will also be venturing out west to take a look at Golden Gate Fields and see what they have for horse racing picks to make on Thursday.
We had solid four days against the horse racing odds last week with 20 exact or better winners (exact is our placement in the Top 3 and better is they finished even higher than anticipated) and 13 others that reached the tote board (25-15 respectively the week prior). Let’s get started this week!
Belmont Park Race: 3
Post Time: 2:23 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 6 Furlongs
Morning Line Favorite at Bookmaker: #8 Shamrock Kid
Backstretch News: For those who like to match names with situations, taking a horse named Bronx Bomber somehow seems appropriate at Belmont. But for our purposes, that alone is not good enough, as well like BB to win because of the second-best last race Beyer (81) and him being 3-1-1 (WPS) record in previous starts. Shamrock Kid has enjoyed two excellent outings (82-78), however, his best efforts have been at a mile or more. Tossing in a horse at 4-1 odds with good numbers in Bustin Shout (74-82-75).
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #1 Bronx Bomber 2) #3 Bustin Shout 3) #8 Shamrock Kid
Longshot Pick: #4 San Juan Diego (8-1 odds)
Belmont Park Race: 5
Post Time: 3:27 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 7 Furlongs
Morning Line Favorite at Bookmaker: #1 Clara Peeters (GB) and #1A Stone Tornado (GB)
Backstretch News: In this sojourn, we have a dual entry of Clara Petters and Stone Tornado from Great Britain, and frankly, either could win as CP is off an 85-Beyer number and ST is from the C. Brown barn and will have I. Ortiz Jr. aboard. Kressie is the next choice thanks to a 4-1-3 (WPS) record at Belmont in a dozen shots and is incredibly consistent (85-84-83). Lady Grace has the same kind of consistency (82-84-81) and is back with jockey J. Velazquez, and these two have won their last two races together. The reason for only third for LG, first time at Belmont.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #1 Clara Peeters and #1A Stone Tornado, 2) #2 Kressie, and 3) #4 Lady Grace
Longshot Pick: #5 Kitten’s Covergirl (15-1)
Golden Gate Race: 2
Post Time: 4:20 EDT
Surface: All Weather Distance: 1 Mile
Morning Line Favorite at Bookmaker: #5 Anna Lee Encore
Backstretch News: Going for a fairly decent sized upset with Snow Pack. SP has hit the board seven of nine times at this distance or longer and like many in this field is dropping in class. Favored Anna Lee Encore is overpriced due to having J. Hernandez as its rider, as he is 9-7-5 in his past 30 starts. ALE fits a trifecta ticket for certain. Charlie’s Belle fits the longshot tag and has numbers just short of our choice to win.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #4 Snow Pack, 2) #6 Charlie’s Belle, and 3) #5 Anna Lee Encore
Longshot Pick: #6 Charlie’s Belle (10-1)
Belmont Park Race: 8
Post Time: 5:04 EDT
Surface: Dirt Distance: 1 1/16 Miles
Morning Line Favorite at Bookmaker: #5 Basquiat
Backstretch News: Basquiat was the early favorite mostly due to trainer C. Brown and jockey I. Ortiz Jr. We are looking elsewhere starting with Famished, who has been showing steady improvement according to the Beyer Speed Figures (73-79-82). So has Country Grammer at 71-73-83 and is also a Brown-trained horse. For the win at 1 1/16 miles on dirt is Mystic Guide, who has the second-best last race Beyer of 84 and who has trained extremely well of late.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #6 Mystic Guide 2) #8 Country Grammer 3) #4 Famished
Longshot Pick: #4 Farnished (8-1)
Belmont Park Race: 9
Post Time: 5:36 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 1 3/8 Miles
Morning Line Favorite at Bookmaker: #14 Rocketry
Backstretch News:This is the Tillis Stakes and we are high on Standard Deviation. Among the reasons for this is when jockey Velazquez and trainer H. Motion have gotten together the last six times, four of those ended up being photo sessions (winners circle pictures). SD has also been improving incrementally (90-93-96) and is at a fair price of 4-1. Dot Matrix is off a pedestrian effort, but prior to that had Beyer’s of 96-97. The local experts feel Sadler’s Joy is the best horse in this stake’s race and has the digits to back it up at 100-97-101.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #1 Standard Deviation, 2) #5 Dot Matrix, and 3) #8 Sadler’s Joy
Longshot Pick: #5 Dot Matrix (10-1)
Golden Gate Race: 6
Post Time: 6:27 EDT
Surface: Turf Distance: 1 1/8 Miles
Morning Line Favorite at Bookmaker: #3 Mithqaal
Backstretch News: Mithqaal sounds like medication you would take after having five horses leading with 100 yards to go and losing all of them in a single day. We are forecasting that won’t be a problem today. Mithqaal 2-1-2 (WPS) in six tries at GGF and has more than the ample speed needed (87-92-85). More Power to Him is a veteran stakes winner and was a close second in 2020 debut. Respect the Hustle was runner-up in a three-year-old stakes race last year and is known for reliable performances.
Horse Racing Picks: 1) #3 Mithqaal 2) #6 More Power to Him 3) #5 Respect the Hustle
Longshot Pick: #6 Respect the Hustle (6-1)
Back Friday with more racing, Good Luck!
