Arsenal look to take another giant step in their Champions League campaign when they take on Bayern Munich. Join us as we preview this clash and serve up soccer picks.

Arsenal Soar
With two defeats from the first two games of their Champions League campaign, Arsenal’s dreams of European grandeur looked bleak. Shockingly pointless and propping up the section to the chagrin of soccer betting fans, it couldn’t have been a worse time to face off against the mighty Bayern Munich on match day 3, group F leaders behind two wins, underscored by clean sheets and an 8-0 score line combined, and the indisputable runaway favorites to advance into the knockouts.

In no uncertain terms, Arsene Wenger and his Gunners were faced with a must-win game at the Emirates a fortnight ago. Bayern Munch arrived in London, riding a record-breaking start to the season with eight straight wins across all competitions, five of which were clean sheets. They loomed large and formidable, not to mention they were the bane of Arsenal’s existence in European competition these past few seasons.

Not that any of it matter on the day in the end as Arsene Wenger’s lads proved they were up for the challenge, admirably rising to the occasion and delivering the sublime – if not competition-saving – victory over Die Roten. A Champions League upset that had Gooner nation the world over floating on cloud nine.

After a goalless first half, highlighted by stupendous saves from both keepers Petr Cech and Manuel Neuer, the Gunners burst into life in the second half. Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil’s goals in the 77th minute and extra time, respectively, lifted Arsenal to the crucial 2-0 win and, in turn, marked Pep Guardiola’s season with its very first blemish.

All of a sudden, things got a lot more interesting in group F. Bayern Munich remain in group F’s penthouse despite the loss but they’ve received unexpected company with Olympiakos crashing their digs. The Greek champions are level with the Bundesliga giants after three rounds (2-0-1 mark in the competition and 6 points), but trail on goal differential. On the flipside, Arsenal and Dinamo Zagreb are level on 3 points after going 1-0-2, but Arsenal are ahead on goal difference.

Once again, Arsenal is faced with a must-win game if they hope to climb back into the European narrative, but the task is going to be tougher this time, surely. Odds makers have priced an Arsenal win at +650 soccer odds and the draw at +400 soccer odds.

Bayern Munich Look To Bounce Back
Pep Guardiola’s side are desperate to bounce back in Europe’s top flight competition. That they get to do it at home and against the very same side that derailed their record-breaking start on the season only adds an element of intrigue to the occasion. A revenge match to add to the drama, if you will.

The Bundesliga giants are enjoying a sensational start to their domestic campaign with ten wins out of 11 games (10-1-0) and 31 points, five points clear of their nearest threat Borussia Dortmund. Indeed, they only recently suffered their first domestic setback – a scoreless draw on the road to Eintracht Frankfurt.

At home, Die Roten have yet to taste defeat in any competition this season. They are 6-0-0 in Bundesliga with 24 goals shipped and just 3 conceded, a run of form that includes back-to-back 5-1 wins over Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund and a 4-0 win over Koln. Interspersed in between those home fixtures is 5-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb on match day 2 of the Champions League.

If those heady numbers aren’t an indication of the monumental task that’s before Arsenal at the Allianz Arena, what is?

Granted, the Gunners have enjoyed success against Bayern on the road. They are undefeated in their last two trips to Munich with a 1-1 draw last season and a 2-0 win the season prior. However, both those winning accounts came after losses in the first leg at the Emirates, when the Gunners were desperate to salvage their European bids but to no avail.

So the overriding question that’s ahead of this highly-anticipated clash on the Champions League betting cards must be: can the Gunners replicate the intensity of match day 3 when they take on Bayern Munich in the reverse leg of their group bids? If the odds were any indication, the answer is a resounding no. Odds makers fancy the hosts at a firm -275 to win straight up and, by all accounts, so does the public on their soccer picks.

Soccer Betting Verdict
Arsenal won the first leg and have room for optimism in the second leg based on their past trips to the Allianz Arena. However, this time around the tables are turned on Pep Guardiola’s side are after a loss to Arsenal, something that doesn’t sit well with them. Bayern Munich can be guilty of complacency at times, but from a position of strength and advantage, when they know they are in the lead. However, they are formidable when their backs are against the wall so.

Bayern are out of for redemption and revenge, and their current run of form and goal-scoring frenzy at the Allianz Arena looms ominously. We’re backing the Germans to return to winning form on the European front as the considerable home favorites at -275 soccer odds. We’re also liking the OVER 2.5 goals at -200 on our soccer picks.
