Let’s take a look at the highest Futures Book odds for these two events and see if we can find a decent betting pick on Group Stage in the Men’s ‘B’ Bracket.

The 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro begin in three weeks and two of the more high-profile events are the Men’s and Women’s Basketball tournaments which, like Soccer, each have Group and Knockout stages in their tournaments. And both have 12 nations who have qualified for these Games, and, as to be expected, Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski and the US Men’s team (-1,000 to win Gold Medal at WilliamHill) and Head Coach Geno Auriemma and the US Women’s team (-1,000 to win Gold Medal at Bwin) are prohibitive favorites in the events making betting in these two Futures Market almost impossible unless maybe your daughter is a Power Forward on the Canadian (66/1 to win Gold Medal at SkyBet) national team. The 12 teams are divided into two Groups (A, B) who play each other once in the Group Stage with both the first Men’s and Women’s games being played on Saturday, Aug 6.

Three Men’s teams who failed to qualify for these Summer Olympics in Brazil next month who were long-shots at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook here when this market originally opened in the Silver State last month—Canada (80/1 to win Gold), Greece (100/1) and Italy (100/1)—were all eliminated in Summer Olympics Qualifying tournaments in Italy (Greece, Italy) and the Philippines (Canada).

Here are all of the current (July 19) highest Futures Books betting odds from Oddschecker for the 24 different Men's Basketball and Women’s Basketball teams participating in these two anticipated tournaments in the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, which is scheduled to run Aug. 6-21 with 207 countries participating in 406 events in 26 different sports in 18 venues throughout Rio.

Conclusions, USA Men’s and Women’s Rosters and betting picks
With this being the last year for Men’s National Team Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski’s (Duke), expect the USA (-90,000 to win Group A, PaddyPower) to roll through Group A play unbeaten against fellow group-mates Serbia (10/1 to win Group A, Winner), France (17/1 to win Group A, PaddyPower), Australia (175/1 to win Group A, PaddyPower), Venezuela (200/1 to win Group A, Betway) and China (200/1 to win Group A, Betway) and into the Knockout Stage on Aug. 17 where presumed group winners Kevin Durant and the USA Men’s team will then take on the 4th-place team from Group B which includes Spain (-125 to win Silver Medal, 188Bet), Lithuania (6/1 to win Group B, Winner), Brazil (8/1 to win Group B, Winner), Croatia (10/1 to win Group B, 10Red), Argentina (12/1 to win Group B, Winner) and Nigeria (300/1 to win Group B, Betway) on Aug. 16.

The 12 members of the US Men’s National Team Roster are: Centers DeAndre Jordan (Los Angeles Clippers) and DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento Kings); Forwards Kevin Durant (Golden State Warriors), Harrison Barnes (Dallas Mavericks), Paul George (Indiana Pacers), Carmelo Anthony (New York Knicks) and Draymond Green (Golden State Warriors); and Guards Jimmy Butler (Chicago Bulls), DeMar DeRozan (Toronto Raptors), Kyle Lowry (Toronto Raptors), Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors) and Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers).

The 12 members of the US Women’s National Team Roster are: Centers Brittney Griner (Phoenix Mercury), Sylvia Fowles (Chicago Sky) and Tina Charles (New York Liberty); Forwards Augustus Seimone (Minnesota Lynx), Tamika Catchings (Indiana Fever), Breanna Stewart (Connecticut Sun) and Maya Moore (Minnesota Lynx); and Guards Lindsay Whalen (Minnesota Lynx), Elena Delle Donne (Chicago Sky), Sue Bird (Seattle Storm) and Diana Taurasi (Phoenix Mercury). So the USA Men’s team will head in without some of its biggest superstars in LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers), Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors) and Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans) while the USA Women’s teams comes in strong with Moore, Catchings and veteran Taurasi likely leading the Red, white and Blue charge for a sixth straight Gold Medal.

With both of these being such desert-like Futures Book marketplaces, the best approach is to probably bet individual games and perhaps trying to take a shot at fading some of the lowest-odds teams on both the Men’s (Venezuela, Nigeria, China) and Women’s (Senegal, Japan, Belarus, China) sides and laying the double-digit points right at Open is advised as the expected heavier chalks in these Group Stage should get the bulk of the early money. And taking a shot at Spain at Even Money (+100, Betway) to win Group B seems like the most value-laden Futures Bet from this mix, although countries like Croatia, Andrés Nocioni (Real Madrid) and Argentina and host nation Brazil will surely put up a fight against La ÑBA, which has current NBA players Ricky Rubio (G, Minnesota Timberwolves), Marc Gasol (C, Memphis Grizzlies), Pau Gasol (C, San Antonio Spurs), Nikola Mirotic (G, Chicago Bulls) and José Calderón (G, Los Angeles Lakers) on its Roster and which may ultimately pose the only threat to stopping the USA Men from winning a third straight Gold Medal at these coming Olympics.
