Australia and Spain, led by former and current NBA champions, meet in a high profile clash to see who will advance to the FIBA World Cup Finals.

Dark Horse Down Under

The Australians have been looking fantastic so far. They are the most complete and well-developed team in the tournament. They have great depth at center with Andrew Bogut and Aron Baynes both providing NBA quality big man play.

Patty Mills has been the star of the tournament controlling the perimeter and hitting from range on pullup jump shots. Mills is using his passing and vision in order to find his teammates to get easy buckets.

Joe Ingles has delivered as a sharpshooter, and Matthew Dellavedova has provided the tenacity and toughness that he always brings to a team.

Shining Spanish Stars

Spain had a 12 point margin of victory in the quarterfinal round in their victory over Poland. They have great balance as well. Ricky Rubio has been the place setter, getting to the rim and distributing to teammates.

Marc Gasol has been excellent and he really shines on the international stage, where the big men aren’t as quick as the NBA. He has been moving well, providing defensive help, calling out screens, while continuing to add his array of offense. It has been a great tournament for Gasol so far.

Ricky Rubio is fantastic on the international stage. His passing, vision, and ability to get to the hoop reminds me of why I thought he was really going to be an NBA star when he was drafted fifth 10 years ago.

Moneyline Value

If you want to play it safe, take the points, but I am going to take the Australia moneyline. Australia at +143 represents the best value available for this semifinal. Australia has been the best team so far. Australia is the most balanced team, they’re bringing intensity and effort every night and they have been sharpshooting.

They play well as a team. They’re tenacious, tough, and they’re not definitely not backing down from the physical way the international game is called. I’m taking the Australia money line for Australia to advance to the finals of the FIBA World Cup
