Johanna Konta (24) vs. Victoria Azarenka (13)
In one of the best matches of the season so far on the WTA Tour, Victoria Azarenka defeated Garbine Muguruza in two tie breaks. Before this event and as we mentioned in our tournament analysis, we had our doubts that Azarenka could keep the same level due to her recent physical problems; however, the Belarussian is playing at a superb level and after Serena’s loss, she’s the undeniable favorite for the trophy. Looking now to Azarenka’s stats against Muguruza they confirm the high level presented from the former world no.1, ending the match with 9 aces / 1 double fault and 25 winners / 19 unforced errors.

Johanna Konta is looking for her second semifinals appearance this season, after reaching that stage of the competition earlier this year at the Australian Open. The last months have been outstanding for Johanna, reaching her best career ranking this week as world no.23. On the previous round, Konta played at a superb level, dismissing Monica Niculescu by 6 – 2 6 – 2 in a match where the British fired 32 winners, but only placed 46% first serve.

This is the second career meeting between these two players, with Konta winning the previous last year at Wuhan, in a match where Azarenka retired due to injury.

It should be an outstanding contest between two players in great shape, yet Azarenka should be too good for her opponent. Konta is only placing 52.5% of first serve and with such low %, she’ll be crushed by Azarenka’s terrific returning skills. With this in mind, we suggest adding the Belarussian spread to your tennis picks on this match.

David Goffin (15) vs. Gilles Simon (18)
After reaching his first career Masters 1000 semifinal last week in Indian Wells, David Goffin is just one win away from repeating the result this week. It has been a very solid week for Goffin, not losing a single set so far. At the 4th round, the Belgian defeated the lucky loser Horacio Zeballos by 7 – 5 6 – 3, in a match where David didn’t face a single break point and ended the contest with impressive numbers – 27 winners / 14 unforced errors and 83.33% points won on serve.

Gilles Simon reaches the Miami Open quarterfinals for the third time on his career, after demolishing his fellow countryman, Lucas Pouille, by 6 – 0 6 – 1. In our ATP & WTA Miami Day 6 analysis, we picked Simon against Marin Cilic, with the French defeating the 2014 US Open champion in a close three sets battle. Gilles is a fearful competitor, never giving anything for free to his opponents and with the slower conditions in Miami suiting his defensive skills and baseline movement.

These two players will face each other for the second time on their career, with Simon winning their previous meeting at Queens last year by 6 – 7 7 – 5 6 – 2.

Both are tremendous counter punchers and like the previous result shows, there isn’t much separating them. We should witness some remarkable baseline rallies and this match might turn into a marathon. Looking at the tennis odds, they clearly support our idea of a close match and a third set should be required to solve this contest. Having said that, we recommend you to take advantage of the value on this match by placing a bet on the Over 2.5 sets bet.
