Caroline Garcia vs. Christina McHale
We picked Caroline Garcia as one of the main favorites to grab the title last week in Monterrey; however, the French couldn’t perform at her best on her semifinals match due to a back injury. After three weeks of intense competition, where Garcia reached two semifinals on singles and one doubles final, Caroline’s body started to pay the price of it. Garcia loves to hit the ball very early with tremendous power and that supper aggressive game style can cause some serious problems to a player’s body.

Christina McHale was also in Monterrey where she retired from her 2nd round match against Nicole Gibbs, but that retirement was due to dizziness in a very long match played in tough altitude conditions; therefore, it shouldn’t affect McHale on this event. Christina was always pointed as a great talent but it has been hard for her to live up to the expectations. This event in California clearly suits her game style, with her kick serve and heavy top spin forehand bouncing extremely high. The American already got some big wins on this event, especially in 2012 when she surprised the world no.3 Petra Kvitova.

This will be the fourth career meeting between these two players, with McHale leading by 2 – 1 on h2h. The French won the first match on clay in 2011 while Christina emerged victorious in the following two in 2013 on Indoor Hard Court and 2014 on Hard Court.

This is a great opportunity for McHale to achieve another victory over Garcia. The French might not be at the best physical condition and the match-up is also far from the best for her, especially on these courts. McHale’s serve and forehand won’t allow Caroline to hit the ball as early as she likes, pushing the French to play behind the baseline. The odds on McHale are just too high and we suggest taking advantage of it by adding the American’s Set Handicap to your tennis picks.

Hyeon Chung vs. Albert Ramos Vinolas
After being crucial on South-Korea’s success over New Zeland at the Davis Cup, Hyeon Chung looks to continue his good momentum. Chung is pointed as one of the most talented players of his generation and he has been consistently inside top 100 for almost a year. There are no doubts about Hyeon’s quality but is important to take a closer look on his career results – the 19 years old built his ranking mainly on Challenger events and against players outside top 100.

Albert Ramos’s favorite surface is without doubts clay, but the Spaniard can also perform at good level on Hard Courts, especially the ones in Indian Wells where the ball bounces higher. Albert’s left-handed top spin forehand is quite effective on these courts and the Spaniard always found tremendous success on this event. When looking at Ramos’ past results in Indian Wells, we have a 5 – 3 career record with a remarkable 117.4% ROI – result of victories as underdog against higher ranked players like Richard Gasquet, Viktor Troicki or Julien Benneteau.

This will be the second career contest between this pair, with Chung winning the previous last year at Nottingham Grass by 6 – 4 7 – 6.

Chung is clearly overrated for this contest and this should be a closer match than the South-Korean’s tennis odds indicate. If this match was played on a different Hard Court Albert’s chances would be much lower, but on this Indian Wells courts he has a good opportunity to surprise the teenager. We believe Albert’s baseline consistency might be too much for the world no.64 and suggest to take advantage of the Spaniard’s value.
