Roberto Bautista-Agut (7) vs. Steve Johnson
After reaching his first ATP career final last week, Steve Johnson will be looking for another final in Valencia. The American has been serving at very good level with the forehand being his biggest weapon. Steve’s backhand is his worst shot, however he has been using the slice very well on this game conditions.
It’s never easy to play a tournament after reaching a final in the previous week but Johnson has been extremely solid, not losing a single set so far. On quarterfinals the American defeated the home player, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez by 7 – 5 6 – 4.
We mentioned in our tournament preview that Roberto Bautista- Agut might struggle to adjust after reaching Moscow final, but the Spaniard kept the good momentum and is already in semifinals.
After a slow start against Nicolas Almagro, Agut raised the level with two easier wins over Andrey Rublev and Mischa Zverev. Roberto is the last Spaniard in competition and will count with a strong support this Saturday.
Bautista-Agut has a good edge over Johnson with a 3 – 0 lead on h2h, all matches were played in 2014. This will be the first meeting on Indoor after two contests on Hard Court and one on Grass.
Agut can play at a very high pace and will explore Johnson’s weakest backhand. As we said the American has been using the slice quite well however Agut rhythm should be just too high for Steve to handle. Roberto is also a great returner and Johnson will struggle to get free points with his serve.
Tennis Pick: Roberto Bautista-Agut -3 (+108) at Pinnacle
