ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai

The Shanghai Rolex Masters takes place in Shanghai and will be played on Hard Court.

Main Contenders

Novak Djokovic returns to competition after a disappointing loss in the US Open final against Stan Wawrinka. The last months haven’t been easy for the Serbian with Djokovic saying that he lost some of his focus after winning the French Open title. However, we expect Djokovic to return with a very positive mindset after one month away from competition. Besides this, Shanghai brings great memories to Novak with the world no.1 winning three of the last four editions.

Looking now to Djokovic’s draw on this event, the Serbian shouldn’t experience any problems on his debut against Fabio Fognini. In the following round, Novak might face Grigor Dimitrov who reaches this event after a terrific campaign in Beijing. Despite Dimitrov’s recent improvements, Djokovic should be too strong for the Bulgarian.
Taking a look now to Djokovic’s potential opponents in the quarter-finals, Nick Kyrgios is the most dangerous player on the Serbian’s quarter. After winning the Japan Open title, Kyrgios is looking to extend his streak in Shanghai. However, it’s unlikely to see the Australian presenting the required consistency to overcome Djokovic.
In the semifinals, Djokovic can face Rafael Nadal or Marin Cilic. Even though these two players might create some problems to the Serbian, we can’t see Novak losing to any of them. Having said that, we recommend you to take Djokovic to win this event at +150 at Coral.

It has been a phenomenal year for Andy Murray, especially the last months with Andy winning 43 of his last 47 matches. After winning the China Open title, Murray shortened the gap to Djokovic in the ATP World Tour ranking.

As usual, Murray is the main favorite to win on the bottom half of the draw when Djokovic is also in competition. Looking to Andy’s draw, Stan Wawrinka and Milos Raonic are the highest ranked players on his half. However, neither of the two should present their best tennis on this event. Stan said that he needed some rest after winning the US Open while Raonic couldn’t continue his campaign in the China Open last week due to an ankle injury. In a tournament where we expect another final between Djokovic and Murray, we also suggest taking Andy’s betting odds at +300 at William Hill.

Despite his remarkable 80.47% record on ATP Masters 1000 events, Rafael Nadal only won 66.67% of the matches played throughout his career in Shanghai. Known as one of the best defenders in the history of the game, Nadal is not so strong in faster game conditions like the ones in Shanghai. Besides this, Rafael reaches this event after a disappointing performance in Beijing’s quarterfinals against Grigor Dimitrov. With this in mind, our suggestion is for you to avoid placing any bet on Nadal’s outright at +2000 at BetVictor.

Player to keep an eye

After winning his first ATP Masters 1000 title a few weeks ago in Cincinnati, Marin Cilic is looking for another successful campaign on this event. The fast courts in Shanghai clearly suit Cilic’s powerful serve, which makes him a player to keep an eye. Looking now to Marin’s draw on this event, the Croatian is in the 2nd quarter with Nadal. As we mentioned before, Rafael is far from reliable in these conditions and for that reason, it’s possible to find some value on Cilic. Therefore, our advice is for you to add Cilic to your betting picks to win the 2nd quarter at +300 at Bet365.
