Pablo Cuevas vs. Guido Pella
It has been a remarkable week for Guido Pella, with the Argentinian reaching his first ATP career final. Pella’s first round victory over John Isner was a massive boost for his confidence, where the Argentinian saved three match points before emerging victorious on a third set tie break. Despite being priced as heavy underdog on his semifinals match against Dominic Thiem, Pella played an extraordinary match while Thiem struggled to perform at a consistent level. Guido played also very well under pressure, saving all five break points he faced and breaking his opponent four times.

Pablo Cuevas achieved one of his best career victories, after defeating Rafael Nadal in a tremendous battle. The Uruguayan produced an outstanding level of tennis, in order to overcome the Spaniard by 6 – 7 7 – 6 6 – 4 after 3:30 hours on court. Pablo’s stats were really impressive, ending the match with 48 winners / 37 unforced errors and saving 10 / 12 break points.

This will be the third career meeting between these two players, with each of them winning one of the previous two matches, both played on the Challenger Tour. Pablo won in 2014 at Guayaquil while Pella claimed the victory in 2015 in Montevideo.

No one could predict that these two players would play the final of this event, but the truth is that we’re going to have one of the most surprising finals on ATP 500 events in recent years. Pella made an outstanding run so far and he has the game to bother Cuevas, with his crossed forehand always creating problems to Pablo’s one-handed backhand. It won’t be easy for Cuevas to recover after such a marathon yesterday and for that reason, we’ll add Guido’s spread tennis odds to our tennis picks for this match.
