Richard Gasquet (1) vs. Paul-Henri Mathieu
With a remarkable comeback, the defending champion Richard Gasquet overcame Dustin Brown to reach his 4th consecutive ATP Montpellier final. Brown was playing some of his best career tennis and after just 35 minutes on court, the German was leading by 6 – 1 3 – 0. However, Richard never gave up and with his consistent tennis found a way to emerge victorious by 1 – 6 6 – 4 6 – 3.

At the age of 34, Paul-Henri Mathieu reaches his 10th ATP career final after a tremendous battle with a player 16 years younger than him, Alexander Zverev. Mathieu is known for his tremendous groundstrokes, but struggles to perform at his best on a consistent level. Mathieu’s level on serve has been one of the keys for his success this week, firing an average of 0.66 aces / 0.09 double faults and winning 89.4% of service games.

This will be the 8th career meeting between these two players, with Gasquet leading the h2h by 5 – 2. However, it’s important to mention that they only faced once in the past five years, with Richard dismissing Mathieu at this same event in 2014 by 6 – 1 6 – 3.

Unfortunatelly, Gasquet wasn’t able to cover our spread on his semifinals match against Brown, but this time he should get the job done. We should witness some great baseline rallies, with Mathieu trying to overpower Gasquet, but the defending champion should be too solid for the 34 years old veteran. Paul-Henri likes to control the points with his forehand, hitting very often the runaround forehand, however Richard is a terrific counter puncher and should explore the space on Mathieu’s right side with his outstanding backhand down the line. With this in mind, we’ll add the value on Gasquet’s set handicap tennis odds to our tennis picks.
