Novak Djokovic (1) vs. Feliciano Lopez (6)
It has been an impressive week for the four-time ATP Dubai champion, Novak Djokovic, winning the two first matches against Tommy Robredo and Malek Jaziri by the same result, 6 – 1 6 – 2. After his 2nd round win over Jaziri, Djokovic reached his 700th ATP World Tour career victory. As we mentioned in our tournament preview, Djokovic is the undeniable favorite and is unlikely to see anyone stopping the world no.1.

The two-time runner up of this event, Feliciano Lopez, reaches the quarterfinals of this competition for the first time since 2008. Lopez is always a tricky player to face, with his big left-handed slice serve and his terrific skills around the net, but this week he has only placed an average of 50.9% first serve. Without his first serve, Lopez’s game is extremely vulnerable and his 46.3% second serve points won this week support that.

This will be the 8th career contest between this pair, with Djokovic leading by 7 – 0 on h2h.

There isn’t much Lopez can do from the baseline against the Serbian and with that low first serve %, he’ll be crushed by the world no.1. Djokovic knows that Lopez can be a very dangerous opponent and for that reason, he should start the match very focused and at great level. Having said that, we suggest you to grab Djokovic’s spread tennis odds as the best play on this match.

Carla Suarez Navarro (8) vs. Elena Vesnina (q)
We picked Carla Suarez Navarro as the player to keep an eye on this event and the Spaniard is already at the quarterfinals, after two straight sets victories over Donna Vekic and Timea Bacsinszky. Carla said she feels extremely comfortable on this event and her numbers against Bacsinszky were impressive, ending the match with 29 winners / 18 unforced errors, saving the two break points she faced and generating 14 break point chances on Timea’s serve. The Spaniard also mixed things very well, rushing into the net whenever as possible and winning 17/20 points at the net.

For the first time since May 2015, Elena Vesnina reaches the quarterfinals of a WTA event. Vesnina is a former world no. 21, but she’s currently outside top 100 and the last months haven’t been easy for her. Elena’s biggest focus in previous seasons has been on doubles, where she has been consistently inside top 10 since 2011. It has been a dream week for Vesnina, emerging from the qualifying and defeating in the main draw Caroline Garcia, Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki. Despite the terrific level presented by Vesnina, it has been an extremely demanding week with Elena also playing doubles. The Russian already spent around 12 hours on court on this event and adding to this, her doubles match only ended close to midnight Doha’s time.

Surprisingly, this will be the first career between these two players, who have been on tour for a long time.

Vesnina will be looking to overplay her opponent with her powerful groundstrokes, but Carla won’t allow Elena to be comfortable on the baseline, with the Spaniard opening the court very well with her shots. Carla can also handle very well the power of her opponents’ groundstrokes, with terrific counter punching skills and using her backhand slice to change the pace of the rallies. Suarez Navarro’s baseline consistency should be too much for Vesnina and the Russian might struggle to present herself at 100% after so many matches played in the last days. With this in mind, we’ll add the Spaniard’s spread to our tennis picks for this match.
