David Ferrer (1) vs. Jack Sock
The four-time champion and our favorite to win the title, David Ferrer, is now just one victory away from the decisive match. It has been a solid week from Ferrer, defeating Matthew Barton and Lukas Rosol in straight sets. The Spaniard hasn’t been broken a single time this week, saving all four break points he faced. As we mentioned in our tournament preview, David loves the game conditions in Auckland, where his counter puncher skills and aggressive baseline game style are extremely effective.

With an outstanding comeback against Kevin Anderson, Jack Sock booked a place on ATP Auckland semifinals. This is Jack’s second career appearance on this event, after losing on quarterfinals in 2014. Sock has been serving at very good level, winning 93.3% of service games and saving 77.8% of break points. After a terrible start against Anderson, losing the first set by 1 – 6, the American raised the level to emerge victorious. Sock’s forehand is by far his biggest weapon, with the world no. 26 generating a tremendous spin with that shot.

This will be the second career meeting between these two players, with Ferrer leading 1 – 0 on head-to-head after defeating Sock two years ago in Stockholm (Indoor Hard) by 4 – 6 6 – 3 6 – 1.

It will definitely be a very interesting match, both have outstanding forehands and love to hit the runaround forehand. Sock can produce terrific shots and he’s always a dangerous opponent to face, but it will be hard for him to defeat such a consistent player as Ferrer. One of Jack’s key for this match will be his first serve %, with the American being far from regular on serve. This week he has been improving his numbers – 51% against Victor Estrella Burgos; 52% against Vasek Pospisil; 57% against Kevin Anderson. Adding to this, he also raised his numbers on his last match against Anderson, after a terrible first set with only 46% first serve in, the American placed 70% and 57% on second and third set, respectively. Ferrer is one of the best returners on tour and Jack will have to place close to 60% to have chances against him. This should be a very close contest and like it happened in their previous meeting, a third set might be needed to decide the winner. With this in mind, we’ll add the Over tennis odds value to our tennis picks as our top tennis selection for this match.
