Can the Potters heap more misery on Tim Sherwood and Aston Villa in week 8 Premier League betting? Find out as we preview this intriguing clash and serve up choice soccer picks.

Aston Villa Slide Into Relegation
On the back of three straight defeats. Aston Villa slide into relegation. Sat 18th in the league, they boast a 1-1-5 mark and just four points after seven rounds. At home, they are without a win in three games (0-1-2). The lone road win on the season came in round 1 over promoted AFC Bournemouth and has been followed by three straight losses to Crystal Palace (2-1), Leicester City (3-2) and Liverpool (3-2).

Following Tim Sherwood’s appointment last season, he boldly boasted that ‘Aston Villa won’t have to fight relegation under me.’ (Daily Mail). So much for that vision as Villa fell into the relegation scrap well before the first month of the season was done and dusted.

Since the opening win over Bournemouth, Villa have picked up just one point – courtesy of a 2-2 draw with Sunderland. However, given that the Black Cats currently prop up the league behind two points from seven games it’s says a lot about Villa’s short comings if they can’t put away the worst team in the league. It’s worth noting too that Villa led 2-0 before fritting away the lead by allowing two goals on either side of half-time.

Stoke City Look To Win Back-to-Back League Games
The Potters finally snapped their negative trend on the season when they clinched their first win at the expense of AFC Bournemouth at the Potteries. The win lifts Stoke City into 17th place in the table, two points ahead of Aston Villa.

The win came immediately after a morale-boosting win over Fulham in League Cup action on the road. It’s no coincidence that merely days later they won their first domestic game. Overall, they are riding a three-game undefeated streak across both competitions (2-1-0). They drew against Leicester City at home 2-2 and then beat Bournemouth at home 2-1.

Now they’ll look to clinch their third straight positive result in domestic action, fourth overall across several competitions. The odds makers though aren’t putting much stock in it, matching the Potters at +190 to win outright while installing the draw at +230 soccer odds. Then again, they aren’t cornering the game in Aston Villa’s camp either with the hosts trading at +163 soccer odds to win outright.

Soccer Betting Verdict
It goes without saying that this is a huge game for both teams with relegation implications riding on it. Stoke City have the upper hand in the table as well the recent upsurge in form that makes them the attractive soccer pick as the road underdogs in our opinion.

Tim Sherwood is desperate to stem the bleed and turnaround Aston Villa’s fortunes, but It’s not without some irony that he’s set to face the very same club against which he faced on his debut as the Villa boss. Villa showed some signs of life in their last outing, putting up quite the fight at Anfield Stadium in a 3-2 loss. However, it could prove immaterial against a Potters side that has now tasted victory and sees its confidence slowly growing from match to match. Indeed, Villa they could face more adversity this week than the soccer odds would suggest.
