Arguably the UFC’s biggest week of the year kicks off Friday with The Ultimate Fighter Finale in Las Vegas. Although UFC 226 on Saturday is stacked, there is value to be had in the smaller event.

Friday's TUF Finale

Israel Adesanya vs. Brad Tavares

Free UFC Pick: Adesanya -130

Best Line Offered: 5Dimes

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3497777, "sportsbooksIds":[19,999996,93,238,1096], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

The main event finds rising star Israel Adesanya facing Brad Tavares in what will most certainly be Adesanya’s toughest test to date. After opening as a -155 favorite, the line has been bet down to -130 while Tavares has gone from a +135 underdog to +110.

It’s an intriguing contrast of styles as Tavares is more of a fundamentally sound and well rounded opponent to Adesanya’s flash and flair. It can be argued that Adesanya is being rushed too quickly into the main-event scene and could be biting off more than he could chew against the steadily rising Tavares, who has won four fights in a row.

The story of this fight is whether or not Tavares will decide to take the Nigerian to the canvas and spend as little time as possible standing up. If there’s a hole in Adesanya’s game, it was exposed against Marvin Vettori in his last fight when Vettori had great success dragging the fight to the mat and Adesanya was clearly a fish out of water on his back.

That will most certainly be the game plan for Tavares here as he possesses an underrated ability to wrestle. It’s the reason the betting line has come down so much. The seasoned veteran of 16 UFC fights has certainly seen his fair share of strikers. However, each round starts standing up and there could be a part of Tavares who wants to see what Adesanya’s hype is all about. That would ultimately be a poor decision as Adesanya has finished 12 of 13 opponents. Even in the fight with Vettori, which he won by split decision, he demonstrated a devastating ability to out-strike his opponents and take advantage of any opening he can find. Also, Tavares is a fighter who likes to work within the clinch, and Adesanya has an extraordinarily underrated clinch game.

Tavares sounded good as a +135 underdog but you can rest assured that Adesanya has worked on his takedown defense and recognizes the gravity of the situation. He’ll do whatever it takes to keep his distance and he'll definitely win the fight for as long as it is standing up.

[/]{"component":"video", "type":"youtube", "url":"", "videoSize":"Large" }[/]

Martin Bravo vs. Alex Caceres

Free UFC Pick: Bravo +125

Best Line Offered: 5Dimes

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3497778, "sportsbooksIds":[19,999996,93,238,1096], "LineTypeId":2, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

It’s a little surprising that Alex Caceres is the favorite considering that his UFC career has been quite the uneven ride. He’s 3-6 in his last 9 fights and the biggest win of his career was a submission of a very young Sergio Pettis in 2014. Not quite what should make him a -145 favorite. However, much of this line is of the “what-have-you-done-for-me-lately” variety as Martin Bravo’s UFC career will be remembered for him being disintegrated by a Humberto Bandenay knee 26 seconds into their UFC Fight Night 114 showdown. It’s the reason that Bravo sits as a +125 underdog, but that line is far too wide considering Bravo’s talent.

Bravo is a solid striker and demonstrates exceptional wrestling ability. Prior to his loss, he had a mix of submission finishes and knockout victories. His loss to Bandenay wasn’t one where he was being dominated so it’s difficult to take much away from that. However, Caceres has had losses where he’s been grounded, out-struck or simply out-hustled by his opponent. As tough as Caceres is, there’s no reason he should be a bigger favorite than Adesanya vs. Tavares. Bravo has the tools, motivation and ability to make this a rough night for Caceres and is worth your investment.

[/]{"component":"video", "type":"youtube", "url":"", "videoSize":"Large" }[/]
