Swansea City is the favorite, no surprise there, but the soccer odds aren't completely crazy here. The Swans are at -140 or so to win, with Hull City at +440 and a draw at +265 at a majority of the top sportsbooks
Down in the dumps after a 3-0 away loss to Manchester City, the Swans righted the ship the only way they know how: by taking care of Newcastle in a 3-0 home victory.
The Magpies have started off the year in fine fashion, so the win is hardly something to scoff at. Nathan Dyer scored first for Swansea, before an own goal from Mathieu Debuchy and a late Jonjo Shelvey goal put the match to bed.
Swansea is 11th in the standings, with five wins, three draws and six losses on the season. They've scored a total of 20 goals and have given up 19 through those 14 Premier League matches.
As for their home form, they've won twice with three draws and two defeats in seven fixtures, while scoring 11 goals and allowing in 11.
The Swans have already played some top competition at Liberty Stadium as well. They've lost to Arsenal (2-1) and Manchester United (4-1), but have drawn against Liverpool (2-2) and beaten Newcastle handily.
We all looked on in amazement as the Tigers beat Liverpool 3-1 in comfortable fashion last weekend. They couldn't match that effort in London during the week.
To be fair, you're going to have to play your best soccer to beat Arsenal at the Emirates, so it wasn't too surprising at all to see Hull lose 2-0 to Arsene Wenger's side. The Tigers had only two shots on goal and saw little of the ball against the in-form Gunners.
Hull City now finds themselves in 13th place in the table, but few teams have been as Jekyll-and-hyde as this side when it comes to home and away form.
On their own pitch, the Tigers have only lost once in seven matches, but away from Hull they've been pretty awful. They've recorded just one win to go along with six defeats in seven away fixtures, while scoring a grand total of five goals and surrendering 15.
As you can tell, it's going to be a tall order for Steve Bruce's men here. We can expect defensive tactics in order to try and stifle Swansea, but can they hold on for the entire 90 minutes?
Premier League Pick
The Swans are the play here. Hull City certainly knows how to make life difficult on opponents, but they don't have the same kind of quality as Michael Laudrop's side.
These are the kind of fixtures that Swansea City simply can't afford to lose. We think they'll put forth a good account of themselves to complete a highly successful week at home.
With that in mind, we will be taking the Swans as our soccer pick at a reasonable price of -140 to win straight up, sending Hull City to their second consecutive loss.
Pick: Swansea City 2 Hull City 0
