After a major upset against 2nd seed Caroline Wozniacki, Kirsten Flipkens will be looking to keep her good run on this event, this time against Denisa Allertova.
Denisa Allertova vs. Kirsten Flipkens
Flipkens plays her best tennis on fast surfaces, her offensive game and slice backhand are extremely effective on this courts. The only title won by the Belgian on WTA Tour was at Quebec in 2012, a tournament played on Indoor Hard Court.
It has been a great week for Kirsten so far, defeating Varvara Lepchenko and Caroline Wozniacki, both in straight sets. Flipkens has always played good tennis in Linz and reaches quarterfinals for the third time in five appearances. Kirsten is averaging 71.4% service hold this week, which are great numbers considering the opponents she faced so far.
Allertova is enjoying a great moment in her career, the Czech reached her first WTA final at Guangzhou a couple weeks ago. This week Allertova faced two other Czech players - Klara Koukalova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova - defeating both in three sets.
It was an exhaustive match against Zahlavova Strycova that took almost three hours and Allertova was clearly fatigued after such a marathon. Denisa was broken 6 times, faced 19 break points and made 11 double faults.
Allertova won’t have much time to recover for this contest and will be hard for her to be at 100% physically. Denisa has very powerful groundstrokes but commits a lot of unforced errors when she’s not able to hit the ball in good position.
Flipkens will use her backhand slice to explore Allertova baseline movement and not allowing the Czech to be comfortable on the baseline. Kirsten is playing terrific tennis, the conditions are perfect for her and she should be able to get another victory.
