Normally it would be Milan that would be favored to advance, but Atletico has been the better team this season and will come in as the soccer odds favorites. How will this Champions League showdown play out?

Odds Overview

Despite being at home at the San Siro, the Rossoneri aren't given too good of a chance of winning on Wednesday.

Soccer odds markets have Milan listed in the +250 to +275 range, leaving Atletico as a solid +120 favorite at the sportsbooks. A draw, which would be a respectable result for both sides, is available at +225 right now.

AC Milan

It sure wasn't a pretty overall effort, but the Rossoneri did just enough to get a 1-0 win over Bologna on Friday. They have Mario Balotelli to thank

In a match that look destined to finish at a 0-0 draw, Balotelli took matters into his own hands, scoring on a wonderful solo effort from at least 25 yards out. In the end, that's all Milan would need to get the three points.

Those points were important, but at this juncture the Rossoneri are just trying to save face by finishing as high as possible. They're in tenth right now, a far cry from the old days when they were consistent champions.

Perhaps the win over Bologna could be the start of some kind of run. Milan definitely has the talent in place – there are big names like Balotelli, Kaka and Keisuke Honda just to name a few.

The Champions League offers a chance for the Rossoneri to forget about their awful league form and focus on a different competition, one in which they've performed well so far this campaign. This is a mighty difficult last 16 fixture they've got on their hands though.

Atletico Madrid

Following a tough span in which they lost at Almeria and then bowed out of the Copa del Rey at the hands of Real Madrid, the Mattress Makers made a statement by thumping Real Valladolid 3-0 at home over the weekend.

The match was essentially over after four minutes. Raul Garcia scored in the third minute and Diego Costa found the back of the net a minute later. Diego Godin added an insurance goal in the second half.

The win kept Atletico even on points with Barcelona and Real Madrid in what's turning out to be a thrilling La Liga race.

But now the focus shifts to the Champions League, where the Mattress Makers have looked fantastic. They went unbeaten in their group (only one draw), with two wins over both FC Porto and Austria Vienna. Let's see if they can keep it going after a long layoff from the competition.

How have the Mattress Makers done away from home this season? In La Liga action, they obviously haven't been able to match their dominance at home, but they've still only lost twice in 11 matches with a goal differential of minus-nine.

Champions League Pick

Though oddsmakers aren't on their side, we reckon Milan will put forth a good showing for this visit of a very talented Atletico outfit.

The Rossoneri, in spite of their rough league position, have protected their home pitch quite well, losing only twice in 12 matches. Defensively they've stood out, holding opponents to only 10 goals in those fixtures.

We look for Milan's back-line to do well in this one, though we're not so confident as to take the home team to win outright. Back a draw with your soccer picks in what should be closely-contested throughout.

Pick: AC Milan 1 Atletico Madrid 1
