Here, there and everywhere is exactly where we looked to come up with these eight wonderful Holiday 2017 Stocking Stuffer Trends from across the sports betting landscape. So please enjoy a raspberry danish and these current Trends found deep in The Lab along with four picks from Friday to Sunday (Christmas Eve) to hopefully help put some more egg in your nog.

1—Chargers Unders 11-0-1 L12 December Games; Bolts at the Jets on Christmas Eve

Our first Christmas Sports Cranberry Trends stocking stuffer, and something we can use this coming weekend, is a little gift to y’all called Chargers Decembers Unders. Over the past three NFL Regular Seasons, The NFL Team Formerly Known As The San Diego Chargers have played 12 straight Unders in the month of December, including last week when Philip Rivers and LA AFC lost 30-13 at Kansas City in AFC West Week 15 play in a game which saw a closing posted Total of 47. The Bolts also saw their Week 14 (Dec. 10) and Week 13 (Dec. 3) Totals go Under by less than a TD in a 30-13 Home win against the Redskins (46½) and in a 19-10 Home win vs. Cleveland (45). In Week 16 on Sunday—Christmas Eve when that dude named Santa Claus and his trusty sleigh will embark southward from the North Pole—in Week 16, the Chargers will be at the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ in a game which currently sees the Total in a tight 42½ to 43 (Heritage) range after opening at 43.

Chargers December Unders are 3-0-0 so far this 2017 NFL Regular Season, went 3-0-1 in 2016 and 4-0-0 in 2015 with the last December Chargers game in 2014 also going Under the Total. The last Chargers December Overcame back on Dec. 20, 2014 at San Francisco in a 38-35 Chargers win which went well over (by 32½ points) the Total of 40½ and LA AFC December Unders are a profitable 13-1-1 ATS the L15 (92.9%), so let’s ho ho hope Sunday’s game goes Under, Rudolph. The Chargers close out the month of December and the Regular Season in Week 17 with a New Year’s Eve day Home game against the Raiders in Carson in what could be a huge result for the hosts.

2—Giants First Half Unders 11-0 L11 when New York NFC Road Dog of 2 to 3½ Points

When the Giants are Road Underdogs of 2 to 3½ points—as the G-Men are this weekend in Week 16 at Arizona—the Under in the 1st Half Totals market has W11 in a row. The 1st Half Total for Sunday’s game from University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona has yet to be posted, but the Giants-Cardinals Total is currently in the 40 to 40½ range. New York Totals are 6-8 (Over-Under) this season with 4 of the L5 Giants games going Under.

3—Simply Fading the Browns Has Been the Best Macro Trend in NFL L3 Regular Seasons

Those who get too cute with things often get entangled in the webs of fake cuteness and keeping things simple of often a great macro strategy for Sports bettors. And Fading The Browns (0-14 SU) ATS has been a profitable endeavor these L3 NFL Regular Seasons. Cleveland is 3-11 ATS this Regular Season, went 4-12-0 ATS in 2016 after a 5-10-1 ATS record in the 2015 NFL Regular Season, meaning this team has gone a money-burning 12-33-0 ATS (26.7%) the L3 seasons employing a cornucopia of QBs, including DeShone Kizer, Kevin Hogan, Robert Griffin III, Josh McCown, Cody Kessler, Austin Davis and Johnny Manziel, meaning USC’s Sam Darnold will probably be looked at very closely by brand new Browns General Manager John Dorsey.

The hapless Browns are at Chicago and Soldier Field on Sunday on Christmas Eve in Week 16 in a game which sees Mitch Trubisky, Tarik Cohen and Da Bears as 6½- to 7-point (5Dimes) Home Favorites (38) in a game probably only important to Chicago (4-10 SU, 6-7 ATS) in not becoming the first team to lose to Cleveland this season.

4—Marshall Has Had “A Wonderful Life” in 14 Bowl Games, 11-1 ATS the L12 Overall

Enough NFL. Let’s move on to a couple of NCAA Football stocking stuffers and one Trend which has already won this 2017 College Football Bowl season—Marshall Covering ATS in Bowls. After QB Chase Litton and crew beat MWC school Colorado State in the New Mexico Bowl at Dreamstyle Stadium in Albuquerque last Saturday (Dec. 16), winning outright 31-28 as closing 3-point Underdogs, Marshall has now W6 straight Bowl games and the Thundering Herd are 11-3 SU in their 14 lifetime Bowl appearances (412 PF-303 PA), the highest Winning Percentage of all FBS schools who have participated in at least 10 Bowl games (78.6%) and have W11 of their last 12 Bowl games Against The (Point) Spread (ATS), including its L6 straight, all SU Wins also. We better send our best Elf in and to do a patient and deeper handicapping dive for you readers on this little turtle dove Trend:

So, C-USA member Marshall (9-4 ATS in 2017) have gone 12-2 ATS in its 14 lifetime Bowl games (11-3 SU) and Head Coach John Holliday (49-44-4 ATS) and the Thundering Herd are 11-2 ATS ATS and SU in the Modern Era (Color TVs) having W6 straight SU and ATS with three outright Thundering Herd Wins as Moneyline Underdogs, including last weekend against the Michael Gallup and Colorado State. In Days Of Past (Black-and-White TV), Marshall went 0-1 SU in Bowl games, losing to Catawba, 7-0 on January 1, 1948 in the Tangerine Bowl at Tangerine Bowl Stadium in Orlando in a game the Reno Gazette says the Point Spread saw the North State Intercollegiate Conference Indians (10-1) go in as 13-point Favorites over Marshall (8-2), meaning the Thundering Herd got the money on New Year’s Day in 1948.

The Thundering Herd lost their first Bowl appearance in the Modern Era, in 1997 when Chad Pennington was QB and Randy Moss was a WR and Ole Miss showed them who was who, winning 34-31 in the Motor City Bowl in Detroit. Marshall then proceeded to W5 straight (SU) Bowl games, including the Motor City Bowl three straight (LOU, BYU, CIN) before winning the GMAC Bowl twice (EC, LOU) and then losing in the Fort Worth Bowl to Cincinnati on Dec. 23, 2004 by a 32-14 final scoreline (CINCY -1½)—the last Bowl game Marshall actually failed to cover ATS or win SU.

5—Hawaii is 4-19 ATS L23 Home Games, Great Fade in Honolulu, Everywhere Else...

I feel like I’m picking on them. But we have a job to do here stuffing stockings, Suzie. Mountain West Conference member, the University of Hawai’i (3-9 SU, 1-10-1 ATS), behind 2nd-year Head Coach Nick Rolovich (7-17-1 ATS), were the best team to bet against in FBS in the 2017 as the Rainbow Warriors went a 1-10 ATS in their 11 lined Regular Season games, only covering against UMass in Week 1, winning 38-35 against the Minutemen on Aug. 26 (60). Hawaii then pushed ATS against FCS side Western Carolina in their Home opener on Sept. 2, winning 41-18 (HAW -23), then QB Dru Brown, RB Diocemy St. Juste and the Rainbow Warriors—the King Rat in our SBR “Cats and Rats” ATS NCAA Football rankings—proceeded to L10 straight ATS (UCLA, WYO, CSU, NEV, SJS, SDS, UNLV, FRESNO, UTAH ST, BYU) in a span which also saw 7 Unders and 3 Overs in Hawai’i games in the Totals marketplace.

The Rainbow Warriors also went 0-6-0 ATS at Home on the FieldTurf of Aloha Stadium in Honolulu to make Hawai’i an unprofitable and fade-worthy 4-19 ATS their L23 games played in Honolulu (17.4%), with the Rainbow Warriors last Home ATS cover in coming against Wyoming back in Week 6 of the 2015 Regular Season (HAW -5, HAW 38 WYO 28) when Barack Obama was still the President. Mele Kalikimaka?

6—Backing the Red Sox in MLB Interleague Play Trend a Profitable 30-10 L2 Seasons

Betting the American League East Division’s Boston Red Sox when they play National League teams in MLB Interleague play has been a profitable endeavor these L2 MLB Regular Season, something we wanted in your Christmas Sports Stocking with Opening Day now just 97 days away. After going an impressive 14-6 in Interleague play in 2016, Boston (93-69, 1st in AL East in 2016) did even better in the 2017 Regular Season, posting a 16-4 mark against Senior Circuit foes making the Red Sox a combined 30-10 record in Interleague play the L2 years.

A look at the MLB Standings Grid over the past two seasons reveals that Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, Chris Sale and the Carmines did particularly well against the Cardinals (4-0 in 2016), Pirates (3-0 in 2017), Redlegs (3-0 in 2017), Phillies (3-1 in 2017), Braves (3-1 in 2016), Giants (3-1 in 2016) and Diamondbacks (3-0 in 2016) with the Dodgers (2-1 vs BOS in 2016) being the only NL team with a Winning Record—or having 2 Wins against the Red Sox. Boston will open Interleague play in 2018 with two Road games at Miami against the Marlins (75/1 to win 2018 World Series, 5Dimes) on April 2-3 in your first chance to profit from this Trend from the Diamond. Shine on.

7—Betting Manchester City, Laying Goals Every Match Should be Required in January

When you yell something outloud to yourself, over and over and over and over. Like, “Why in the name of Her Royal Majesty The Queen am I not betting Manchester City every bleeding match?” That’s a good sign to start backing something. It’s never too late. For God’s sake it’s not even Christmas yet, nor 2018, so slow your little holiday roll, Tiny Tim. There are children about. Perhaps deservedly locked in the basement with a wolverine, but still “about.” Anyway Sergio Agüero (10 goals), David Silva (5 goals, 8 assists), Gabriel Jesus (11 goals), Kevin De Bruyne (8 goals, 8 assists), Raheem Sterling (11 goals) and still unbeaten Manchester City (17-1-0, 56 GF-12) are completely running away with the EPL (-3,333 to Win EPL Outright, Intertops), and, in the process, scoring tons of Goals, Goals, Goals just like the eventual EPL champion Citizens did years ago when guys like Mario Balotelli, Carlos Tevez, Joe Hart and James Milner all still plied their football wares for the Noisy Neighbors in Sky Blue Mancunia.

Manchester City will face AFC Bournemouth in EPL Matchweek 19 play at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Saturday (NBCSN, 10 am EST/7 am PST; MC -1250, BOURNE +2000, DRAW +850; Total 3½o -154, Intertops) in a holiday weekend game in which the talented Sky Blues should score at least 4 times with players like Captain Vincent Kompany, Leroy Sané (6 goals), stalwart Yaya Touré and GK Ederson Moraes all having to take a spotlight backseat with the City attack so dominant and quick to score. After playing four straight consecutive 2-1 wins in Premier League play, the Citizens defeated Swansea City 4-0 in Wales and Tottenham Hotspur at Home, 4-1, so backing Manchester City and taking Overs in fixtures with Totals posted less than 4 seems like a holiday stocking stuffer with this team poised to keep scoring goals and winning with everyone pitching in. Expect a 5-0 type victory over the Cherries and a great spot to back the happy host Citizens laying 2½ (-130, Heritage) as well as the Over (3½ -154, Intertops) early Saturday. Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...

8—Fading the Arizona Coyotes in the NHL Should Come as Naturally as Sleeping Does

Betting against the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes is the gift that just keeps giving these L2 seasons. So far in the 2017 Regular Season, Arizona has gotten off to a 7-24-5 start (7-29 for bettors) with the Desert Dogs having been outscored 125-80 (-45 GD) in their first 36 games. Arizona will take a 7-game Losing Streak into tonight (Friday) when the Coyotes host Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals tonight (Friday) in suburban Phoenix (Glendale) at the Gila River Arena in an inter-conference game which will see Washington as big Road Favorites. After going 30-42-10 (197 GF-260 GA, -63 GD) in the 2016 NHL Regular Season, Clayton Keller (26 points), Max Domi (15 assists) and the Yotes are a combined 37-81 their L118 games over the past two seasons, winning just 31.4% of their skates. Let’s back Braden Holtby, Nicklas Backstrom the visiting Capitals—off to a money-making 7-1-0 merry month of December—big on Friday night to start the Holiday weekend off right (FSAZ, NSW, DirecTv 686, 9 pm EST/6 pm PST). Best of Luck to all and odds a are you will thoroughly enjoy your long Holiday weekend.
