The 34th Breeders’ Cup Classic will be held on Saturday, November 4 at Del Mar Racetrack in the beautiful beach city of Del Mar, California near San Diego with the race the jewel of the 12-race Breeders’ Cup two-day (Friday-Saturday) weekend in a 1¼-mile race which will feature most of the world’s elite 3-year-old and up thoroughbreds.

The Second Favorite, Arrogate, Seeking a Repeat in Breeders’ Cup Classic at Del Mar on Nov. 4

Let’s take a look at the odds from the Futures Book from Offshore sportsbook BetOnline and offer up a pick on a Bob Baffert-trained horse with the perfect name and a nice winning streak heading in.

Gun Runner the Current Futures Book Favorite (+180) for Breeders’ Cup Classic at BetOnline, Arrogate Second Choice

Thought by many as the most prestigious thoroughbred Horse race in the US of the calendar year, the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) is scheduled to run its 34th edition on Saturday, November 4 at the scenic Del Mar Racetrack (Dirt) in Del Mar, California with NBC again covering the 1¼-mile race (8:35 pm ET/5:35 pm PT Post) between the world’s best 3-year-olds and up (NBCSN will air the first 8 races of Breeders’ Cup Saturday). Offshore oddsmakers currently have 4-year-old colt Gun Runner (+180, BetOnline) as the race’s favorite in the Future book market with defending 2016 race winner (Santa Anita) Arrogate (+220 to win Breeders’ Cup Classic, BetOnline)—who will reportedly retire after the race—the second choice at +220 followed by West Coast (+500) and Collected (+550). All other horses, including Kentucky Derby favorite and son of Ghostzapper, McCracken (65/1 to win BC Classic, BetOnline)—are priced at 15-to-1 odds and up with Mubtaahij (15/1, BetOnline) the current fifth favorite.

The race formerly known as the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic—the $2 million Distaff (1 1/8 miles, G1, Race 9)—will see some of the world’s best 3-year-old and up Fillies and Mares go hoof-to-hoof at Del Mar on Friday, Nov. 3 (NBCSN, 7:35 pm/4:35 pm PT Post) and oddsmakers have made Stellar Wind the 7/4 favorite (Bovada) with the 5-year-old mare heading in on a 3-race Win Streak. Bob Baffert-Trained West Coast, Collected Head in On Win Streaks, Both Worth Considertion in Breeders' Cup Classic

This is a tough handicap with Winchell Thoroughbreds and Three Chimney Farm’s and favorite Gun Runner (+180, BetOnline), jockeyed by Florent Geroux—who has ridden the colt 14 straight races now—and impressive 8-3-2 (W-P-S) with the 31-year-old Frenchman in the saddle with the lone off-the-board finish coming in the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park in sloppy conditions. “After he [Gun Runner] won the Louisiana Derby, I knew he was the real deal,” jockey Geroux said of his horse who won the G2 race by 4½ lengths. No. 2 odds choice Arrogate (+220, BetOnline), a Bob Baffert-trained gray colt, suffered his first career Loss at the G2 San Diego Handicap, finishing a disappointing 4th in the 5-horse race (as a gigantic 1/20 Favorite no less) here at Del Mar and heads into the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic not running as well as wanted after a 2nd-place finish in his last race, the Pacific Classic also at Del Mar. But Baffert has four other horses who could be contenders in this early November race, including third-odds favorite West Coast (+500), a 3-year-old colt which will come in on a 5-race Win Streak, including the Pennsylvania Derby (G1) and the Travers Stakes (G1).

Baffert also trains Collected (above), a 4-year-old colt who will head into Del Mar on a 4-race Win Streak, the last one coming against 2016 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner, Arrogate, in that aforementioned Pacific Classic here at Del Mar. The two-day Breeders’ Cup World Championships will be held on November 3-4 at Del Mar with the weekend beginning on Friday, Nov. 3 with the Breeders’ Cup Distaff being the highlight of the day. The draw for the big race—this will be the first time the Breeders’ Cup will be held at Del Mar—and betting menu will be announced on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Some horses available in the Bovada Futures Racebook but not currently on the betting board at BetOnline include Classic Empire (16/1, Bovada), Send It In (33/1), Practical Joke (33/1), Vivios (33/1), Hoppertunity (50/1), Tapwrit (50/1) and Irish War Cry (50/1).
