Here are your free picks for the 87th Academy Awards, including the top choice to take home the Oscar for this year’s Best Supporting Actress.
Best Supporting Actress
Patricia Arquette – Boyhood (-5000)
Emma Stone – Birdman (+2000)
Keira Knightly – The Imitation Game (+3300)
Meryl Streep – Into the Woods (+4000)
Laura Dern – Wild (+4000)
For the first time in forever Meryl Steep may be the longest shot on the board to win an Oscar. Her portrayal of a once-beautiful witch yet again caught the eye of the Academy but it won’t be enough to get the grand dame of acting into the winners circle this season despite her 19th nomination.
Patricia Arquette is the overwhelming betting favorite in Academy Awards odds to take Oscar home with her due to the fact that she, like her male counterpart J.K. Simmons up for Best Supporting Actor, hit the trifecta of the major minor awards in winning the Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and SAG awards as well as too many other regional industry awards to mention here. It would be a stunner if Rosanna’s younger sister didn’t get the opportunity to thank anyone and everyone in front of a live television audience on Sunday night.
But sadly the offshore bookmakers understand all too well that winning the Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and SAG awards is a virtual guarantee for adding an Academy Award to the already expanding assemblage of honors for her portrayal of Olivia Evans in Boyhood. At -5000 we must look elsewhere and we shall.
If the Academy is predisposed to shocking this season they could do no better than forsake Patricia Arquette’s sublime performance in Boyhood for Keira Knightley’s stellar portrayal of codebreaker Joan Clarke in The Imitation Game. It has been nine years since Knightley graced the Academy stage and her performance could finally land her the coveted Oscar.
