Best Actress Odds

Julianne Moore - Still Alice (-5000)

Reese Witherspoon - Wild (+1600)

Rosamund Pike - Gone Girl (+2500)

Felicity Jones - The Theory of Everything (+4000)

Marion Cotillard - Two Days One Night (+5000)

When we review the Academy Awards odds and begin to formulate our choices we have to look at the three precursors to this Hollywood extravaganza. I speak of the awards handed out at the Golden Globes, Critics' Choice and of course the SAG Awards. These three award ceremonies have an outstanding history of picking the winners of the Academy Awards. In the Best Actress category the SAG committee has been on point with their winner taking home the Oscar over 73 percent of the time. The Golden Globes are no slouch in this category either having their winner locking up the Academy Award at a rate north of 70 percent. In addition, the last five seasons have seen the Golden Globe winner for Best Actress also cop the Academy Award for Best Actress.

This year not only did both the Golden Globes and SAG agree on Best Actress but so did the Critics' Choice too. All three organizations chose the sublime Ms. Julianne Moore as Best Actress and in the nine occasions that one actress has won in this category from all three committees that actress has gone on to win the Oscar over 88 percent of the time.

But seriously folks, can we lay $50 just to win one lousy buck?  Yeah, she's -5000 in Academy Awards betting odds for Best Actress and you didn't even see the movie in which she starred so how the hell would you know how brilliant her performance was? Well, you wouldn't but by doing a little research you now know why the lovely and talented Ms. Moore is currently the prohibitive chalk on the board.

Since we cannot possibly lay that kind of lumber let's go with Felicity Jones who starred in The Theory of Everything. Wouldn't it be so Hollywood to see the Best Actor (Eddie Redmayne) and the Best Actress (Felicity Jones) winners come from the same movie?! Well sure it would and at 40-1 Ms. Jones is worth a shot.

Academy Award Betting Pick: Felicity Jones +4000 at WilliamHill.
