Chile and Australia collide on day 3 of World Cup betting, all the while both hoping to shake things up in Group B. Will Chile come through on their massive odds to win outright, or will Australia manage to achieve an upset?

Chile‘s class
Chile enter their group opener against Australia as the hot favourites at -222 favourites to win outright at Bet365. The draw is tipped at rather large +300 odds; however, the most telling odds are those on Australia to mastermind the upset, which are set at whopping +700 odds.

For the second time, in as many World Cups, Chile are drawn into the same group as Spain. And for a second World Cup in a row, they are in danger of drawing Brazil in the R16; that is, assuming they advance in second place.

Chile are definitely in play to qualify into the knockouts at -120 in group qualification betting from the so-called ‘Group of Death’, behind top plays Holland at -150 and Spain at -600. Chile are the dangerous floaters in Group B, more than capable of handing a knockout blow to either of the favourites Spain and Holland. In fact, many experts are predicting Chile as the value World Cup pick to advance in second place, at Holland’s expense – an occurrence that would set them on a collision course with Brazil in the R16 (the likely Group A winners).

In 2010, Chile’s decisive football saw them finish level with Spain on six points, following a 2-0-1 record, but in second place on account of goal difference. Chile, however, had the misfortune of drawing Brazil in the R16 then, and went on to lose 3-0.

The Socceroos
Chile isn’t a side loaded with stars, but the sum of their whole is better than their individual parts – not unlike Atletico Madrid, Primera Division champions. But they have to be wary of the Socceroos, who might be the quintessential underdogs of the competition at +150000, but more than capable of putting a damper on another nation’s bid.

In 2010, Australia very nearly advanced into the knockouts. They drew level with Ghana on four points with a 1-1-1 record, but finished third on account of goal difference (Germany handed them a 4-0 drumming). They did however dash Serbia’s hope on the final round of group play with a 2-1 victory. Australia are listed at +4000 to win Group B and +900 to simply advance into the knockouts.

Recent form isn’t auspicious at all with Australia failing to win any friendly in the New Year, since a 1-0 win over Costa Rica in November. They lost 4-3 to Ecuador and 1-0 to Croatia, and they drew 1-1 with South Africa.

Match Betting Tips for Chile vs. Australia
Getting off to a solid start is going to be paramount towards Chile’s campaign, especially if they’re to underscore cautiously optimistic World Cup predictions. A win would give them a crucial leg up in Group B’s table after the first round, upon which they could potentially build an enduring campaign.

Chile have the fortune of opening against the group’s lightweights Australia, a match they can’t fail to put away. To do so would be detrimental to their bid, surely. Clearly, odds makers favour them to win at -222 soccer odds, and we do agree with this cast. It’s hard to imagine Australia masterminding the upset, really. Additional World Cup Picks: back Chile also to win 3-1 at +850 at Bet365.
