Once again, irrespective of who’s playing and what the bookies think you can make money from the World Cup if you listen to your Humble Handicapper’s top soccer tips. The latest World Cup game that has caught his money winning eye is Ivory Coast V Columbia, and there’s money just waiting to be picked up in that clash.

This match kicks off at the Estadio Nacional, Brasilia on Thursday 19th June which means that you can start your Friday right by picking up your winnings from the bookies on Friday morning. Both of these sides kicked off their world cup campaigns in the best possible way, with wins.

Ivory Coast had to come from behind against Japan, but thanks to Gervinho their 2014 Fifa World Cup Group C opener ended 2-1 to the good.

Colombia also had a good beginning to their campaign, as a Pablo Armero strike set them on the way to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Greece.

At this stage, to put those results into some form of context, we will ignore the odds on these two sides winning the world cup (although your Humble Handicapper can tell you that Columbia are around 33/1 and Ivory Coast are 100/1). Instead let’s have a look at the odds on these two sides making out of the group stages, and indeed topping the group. Columbia are ½ to win Group C outright, and 1/11 to qualify. However, Ivory coast are right at their heels at 9/4 to win the group, and 2/7 to qualify. The bookies seem content that it will be Greece and Japan heading home the soonest out of this group and indeed you can pick up odds of 1/16 on Greece not to qualify and 2/11 on Japan to do the same.

Enough with qualification…WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?
Although these are the two heaviest hitters in this group I would recommend you stay well away from betting on them producing the highest scoring match when they face off, even at 19/10. The bookies have these sides at 1/3 (Columbia) and 3/1 (Ivory Coast) to be the highest scoring side in Group C, but that tells you who’s most likely to come out on top in this match. The basics for this match have Columbia winning at 6/5, the draw is at 12/5 and an Ivory Coast win is at 11/5.

Normally when the top two sides with very little to prove in a group face off, your Humble Handicapper likes to back a draw, and if he was going to back a draw he would have backed a 1-1 draw at 13/2. However, as it’s the World Cup, and Columbia put on such a consummate display against Greece you Humble Handicapper is confident in backing them to do something similar, but not quite as impressive against the Ivory Coast. The bookies seem to agree (as they should) Columbia winning both halves is at 9/4, followed closely by draw/draw at 4/1. Next up in the Half time/ Full times stakes is a draw on the 45, and Columbia taking the match on the 90. That final one is certainly a worthy World Cup bet at 4/1. Long story short Columbia will take this match, but it will be a close run thing.
