The quarterfinal line up is steadily taking shape if there is one thing that stands out the most on the women’s front it’s the unpredictability developing as a whole slew of surprise quarterfinalists emerge. Here’s a look at Tuesday’s round of the last eight complete with tennis free picks for your consideration.

In so doing, Wozniacki has taken over as the second favourite in the tournament behind Serena Williams, which underscores her form during impressive runs in Montreal and Cincinnati. It also earned her the right to enter the quarterfinals as the hot favourite at -500 at the expense of the plucky Sara Errani.

Wozniacki had all to do to beat Sharapova in three sets. After taking the first set on a break of serve, Wozniacki quickly fell behind in the second set. Sharapova, true to form, raised the level of her game and rallied valiantly to 6-2 win in order to force a third. In the final set, Wozniacki raised her level to take the tremendous win.

Sara Errani defied the odds to reach the quarterfinals following a plucky, hard-fought victory over an in-form Venus Williams in the third round. Although the match was bizarre in a way, with Errani winning the first set to love and then Venus winning the second set to love, the third set was one of the best sets of tennis in the tournament as each player raised her level to deliver a dramatic battle to the end. Standing 5’2” tall (or thereabouts) the diminutive Italian remarkably rose to the challenge, staring down both Venus and the pro-Venus Arthur Ashe crowd to win the third set 7-5 in the tiebreaker. The most important aspect is Errani proved immune to the hangover effect following a big win by beating Mirjana Lucic-Baroni (the feel-good story of the tournament) in the fourth round 6-3, 2-6, 6-0.

Tennis Betting Verdict
There’s a lot to recommend both players in this matchup in the outright win markets, so much so that the tennis odds do seem to be a bit misleading in our opinion. While we agree Wozniacki is the deserved favourite she seems a bit overpriced at -500 tennis odds to win outright. By that same token, Errani seems a bit disingenuously disadvantaged at +350 to win outright.

Wozniacki leads 2-1 overall in their head-to-head while on hard courts they are 1-1 lifetime That said the record is a moot point arguably with the last meeting coming in 2010. Since then Errani has become a much better player and competitor. Both players are defensively inclined but Errani is more willing to go on the attack than Wozniacki is, who prefers to hang back on the baseline and goading her opponents to try to beat her. They say fortune favours the brave. If Errani takes her opportunities as they come to go on the attack and uses her doubles skills at the net, she could beat Wozniacki.

Tennis Free Picks: Errani to win outright at +350 and in straight sets at +600 or three sets at +800

Belinda Bencic +120 vs. Shuai Peng -150
Tennis Betting Analysis: Belinda Bencic, the youngest competitor at the US Open, reaches the quarterfinals following a stunning upset win over Jelena Jankovic last night at Arthur Ashe stadium. Battling a few early nerves, the Swiss rising star fell behind early in the first set and looked to be on the verge of a quick exit. Then, all of a sudden she gathered herself and reeled off several sensational points to get back into the set, ultimately winning the match in straight sets and proving exactly why her mentor Martina Hingis is excited about her prospects and why she’s been on many an experts’ radar.

China’s Shuai Peng has large shoes to fill in the absence of Li Na at the US Open, not that you’d know the responsibility was taxing at all as she summarily dismissed fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska, 28th seed Roberta Vinci and 14th seed Lucie Safarova in succession. Peng is playing with confidence all while flying China’s flag high in New York. She enters the quarterfinals as the favourite at -150 to reach her first-ever semifinal at a major.

Tennis Betting Verdict
Appropriately, the tennis betting line is tight on this matchup, with value to be had on both sides of the coin. This is a first major quarterfinal for both players, unchartered territory. Determining which player is the best tennis pick isn’t straightforward. Peng has enjoyed a bit of a giant-killing spree and that has earned her the favourable nod at -150 tennis odds. Bencic is only 17-years-old and while she’s the nominal underdog at +120 it would seem odds makers expect her inexperience at this stage to materialise. For our money however we quite fancy Bencic to defy the odds.

Tennis Free Picks: Bencic to win outright at +120 and in three sets at +350
