We share free MLB picks as the Washington Nationals and Tampa Bay Bays continue their series, moving to the nation's capital city for two games on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Tampa Bay Rays Can Win Because...
They are going to want to bounce back from their horrid performance on Tuesday night at home against the Nationals. It's one of those games, and it happens. Over 162 baseball games, you're going to have some washouts, and the Rays endured one Tuesday. They barely blinked and found themselves down 10-0 in the fifth inning, the kind of night that's easy to forget about, but also the kind of game that's not likely to lead to another bad performance the next night. If you're a bettor, you have to be wary of the idea that Washington's just going to roll over Tampa Bay on consecutive nights.

The even bigger reason to place MLB picks on the Rays here is that the pitcher they're opposing has been absolutely awful the past two times he's taken the mound. Jordan Zimmermann has been an ace-level pitcher for the Nationals the past few seasons, but he's looked anything but an ace the past two starts. He gave up four runs on 10 hits in just five innings on June 7, and then on June 12, he got whacked by the lowly Milwaukee Brewers for six runs on nine hits in just 3 1/3 innings. He is a very vulnerable pitcher, and there's a good chance that while Tampa Bay might not clobber him, the Rays can certainly put together four runs in this game, which might very well be enough to win.

The Washington Nationals Can Win Because...
They are facing a pitcher who is not very experienced or very imposing. Matt Andriese is making a spot start here for the Rays. He has made four starts this season in eight total appearances. He has a modest ERA of 3.76, a stat made less impressive by the fact that he has pitched a total of 26 1/3 innings this season. Andriese's two longest outings have been 5 2/3 innings and four complete innings. Therefore, you can see that he's pitched more than four innings only once this season. With that kind of track record, it is very hard from a betting standpoint to place a lot of faith in Andriese.

The other thing to realize about the Nationals is that on Tuesday, they swung the bats extremely well. Washington collected 10 runs on 12 hits in the first five innings of this game. They have to feel very confident about how they're seeing the ball against Tampa Bay's pitchers - this should give them a boost for Wednesday.

The performances of Zimmermann should concern Washington, but we’ll look for a bounce back. Prior to this rough two-game spell, he had allowed three earned runs or less in nine straight starts. With the Rays batting just .225 as a team this month and with Andriese pitching relatively well, this figures to be a low-scoring game. Go under the MLB odds with your MLB picks.
