We are excited to share our free MLB picks for tonight's contest between the NY Yankees and the Detroit Tigers. Will the Tigers be able to continue on their sizzling hot start to the season?

Yankees and Tigers open Three Game Series on Monday
The Detroit Tigers will take on the New York Yankees on Monday at 7:05 PM ET. This will be the opening game of a three-game series at Tiger Stadium. According to the MLB odds at Wager Web, Detroit is a -140 money line favorite, and the posted total is 8.5.

Team Reports
Detroit is coming off a 9-1 shellacking of the White Sox at Tiger Stadium on Sunday, and that put an abrupt end to a two game losing streak. Those two Tigers losses came after starting the season by going a perfect 9-0. Detroit has gone an identical 5-1 at home as well as on the road.

The New York Yankees posted a 5-3 road win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. The win evened the Yankees record at 6-6, and they also improved to 4-2 on the road. Despite some less than stellar hitting to start the season, the Yankees have managed to go over the total in ten of their previous eleven games.

Starting Pitchers
The Yankees will go with veteran southpaw C.C. Sabathia on the mound for the opening game of this series in Detroit. Sabathia has been very shaky in his 0-2 start to the year, evidenced by him posting a lofty 5.68 ERA in those outings. On a positive note, the Yankees hurler struck out 15 and walked just one in his 12 2/3 innings of work. Since the start of the 2012 season, Sabathia has gone 3-1 in his team starts at Tiger Stadium while posting a 4.13 ERA.

Newcomer Alfredo Simon is off to an impressive 2-0 start to the season for the Tigers. Simon posted a stellar 2.03 ERA and 0.82 WHIP in those outings. Simon has now gone 16-3 in his team starts over the past two seasons during the first eighty-one games of the year.

MLB Totals System
The Detroit Tigers head into tonight’s game with a stellar .309 team batting average on the season. The Tigers Alfredo Simon didn’t surrender a walk in his previous start. The New York Yankees bullpen has posted an outstanding 2.17 ERA to begin the 2015 season. These three statistical factors creates a very profitable totals systems which has passed the test of time with flying colors, and I’ll take advantage of that handicapping tool when making my MLB picks on Monday.

Any home team that has a team batting average of .285 or better, and their starting pitcher didn’t walk a batter in his previous start, versus an opponent with a bullpen ERA of 3.75 or less, resulted in that home team going under the total in 51 of those 69-games (73.9%) since the beginning of the 1997 MLB campaign.
