A prime-time matchup brings MLB’s fourth week of 2018 to an end, and we have a free baseball pick for tonight's battle in Anaheim between Los Angeles and streaking New York.

Before the weather this spring wreaked havoc with the MLB schedule, this edition of ESPN’s "Sunday Night Baseball" lined up for Angels rookie Shohei Ohtani to take on the mighty Yankees. Instead, it’s going to be an all-southpaw matchup on the bump when New York goes for a sweep in Anaheim.

Tyler Skaggs (3-1, 2.96) will serve as the first line of defense for the Angels, delivering the game’s first pitch at 8:07 p.m. ET. Tight money lines are the norm for the matchup with Skaggs and the Halos being offered at -112 by Bookmaker. The Yankees counter with veteran CC Sabathia (1-0, 1.86), some shops offering an 8½-run total which is juiced to the "over" while others list it at 9 and favor the under."

First Career Start vs. Yankees For Skaggs

The clubs needed an extra inning on Friday, the Yankees tying it in the ninth before winning 4-3 in the 10th on Didi Gregorius’ homer. New York came out ready to hit Saturday, plating five in each of the first two innings to coast to an 11-1 decision. The victories give the Yanks a leg up to take their eighth season series in the last nine years, and the split in totals still leaves the "under" with a huge 10-2 advantage in the last dozen on this diamond.

Sabathia finally hung around long enough and got solid support from the offense to pick up his first dubya of the year in an 8-3 decision vs. the Twins on Tuesday. The 37-year-old limited Minnesota to just two hits and an unearned run during his six innings of labor, just the second time he’s reached the 80-pitch count in 2018. Ian Kinsler and Mike Trout have hurt him the most in this lineup, each taking Sabathia deep twice over the years. Skaggs is also coming off a dandy performance with seven shutout innings in Houston on Monday, the fourth time in five tries the Angels have won with the 26-year-old on the hill. He’ll be facing the Yankees for the first time in his career, Giancarlo Stanton (0-2) the only New York hitter who has seen him before.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Angel Hernandez, who was part of a controversial call in Game 1 and remains one of the worst arbiters at the MLB level, will call balls and strikes tonight. It’s his fourth plate assignment of 2018, three of the previous contests falling short of the MLB odds. Three of his last four at the Big A in Anaheim, however, have cashed for ‘over’ bettors.

There will be plenty of sunshine left for the 5 p.m. local start in Anaheim, the thermometer in the upper-60s with an 8-10 mph SW breeze (out to center). With New York rolling, it’s easy to take the underdog with my free MLB pick.
