The New York Yankees clinched the AL East title on Tuesday with a 5-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Here are our picks for the final game in this series between the Yankees and Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

With the Yankees locked up as the AL East division winners, the Blue Jays look to solidify their hold on the top wild-card spot in the American League. Entering Wednesday, they’re three clear, with the Tampa Bay Rays in the second spot by 1.5 games ahead of the Seattle Mariners.

Here are my MLB picks and predictions for Wednesday’s game between the Yankees and Blue Jays (odds via FanDuel SportsbookBetMGM, and DraftKings Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5 scale).

Yankees vs. Blue Jays Odds

Yankees vs. Blue Jays Odds Analysis

The Yankees are the Moneyline favorites, ranging from –125 at BetMGM to -130 at DraftKings and FanDuel. The total is set at 7.5 at all major sportsbooks.

Both tickets and cash have come in favor of the Yankees, with 89% of cash in their favor and 83% of tickets. The Over has drawn 90% of the tickets but just 59% of the handle.

Yankees vs. Blue Jays Projected Pitchers

Gerrit Cole (12-7, 3.49 ERA, 1.03 WHIP) vs. Mitch White (1-6, 5.12 ERA, 1.41 WHIP)

As is usually the case with him, Cole has been rather up and down of late. In his last seven starts, he’s recorded a 4.09 ERA. Home runs continue to be an issue for Cole, who’s allowed an AL-high 31 this year. Batters are averaging .209 against Cole, however, he has a strikeout rate of 33% and a K/9 of 11.7.

Since he was acquired at the trade deadline from the Los Angeles Dodgers, it’s been a rough go for White. His 5.12 ERA accounts for his starts in Los Angeles as well, but since joining the Blue Jays, White’s pitched to a 7.39 ERA in eight appearances. White’s bright spot is his walk rate, a career-best at 7.3%.

Yankees vs. Blue Jays Picks

Yankees vs. Blue Jays ML Pick

Blue Jays (+105) ★★★

While Cole’s the better starter for sure, he’s had his struggles recently, especially with home runs. Now that the Yankees have locked up the AL East, all eyes are on the Blue Jays as they look to clinch a playoff berth over the course of the next few games. Certainly, the Blue Jays offense is going to be looking to capitalize off of Cole, who’s coming off a three-game streak of allowing four earned runs.

Still, Cole’s a strikeout-heavy pitcher and so I’m banking on big hits from guys like Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and designated hitter Alejandro Kirk to push Toronto ahead. Those two sluggers have had proven success against Cole in the past.

Pitchers continue to pitch around Yankees’ slugger Aaron Judge as he chases home run No. 61. With Judge’s main production of late mainly coming from walks, the Yankees offense has slowed down a bit.

Yankees vs. Blue Jays O/U Pick

Under 7.5 (-105) ★★

As mentioned, Cole’s a strikeout heavy pitcher. Even with his home run struggles and White’s overall struggles, both teams have solid bullpens. The Yankees bullpen has the fourth best ERA in MLB with a 3.05 ERA, striking out 541 batters in 534 1/3 innings. Toronto’s bullpen ranks 18th in baseball, with a save percentage of 63.2%.

Yankees vs. Blue Jays Prop Pick

Cole 8+ strikeouts (+122) ★★

In each of his last four games, Cole struck out at least eight batters. He struck out 14 against the Minnesota Twins on September 7.

Cole last faced the Blue Jays on August 20, striking out only five batters in six innings and allowing four earned runs. While he’s been hot and cold recently, his strikeout rate hasn’t wavered and I don’t expect that to come to an end Wednesday, especially knowing he didn’t exactly live up to his own standards the last time he faced Toronto.
