Pitching has ruled in the first two games between the Yankees and Angels, and New York is once again favored on the MLB odds when the series draws to a close on Wednesday.

MLB Season Record: 29-40 (-11.48)

Seeing their 6-game win streak come to an end Tuesday night and fearing they may have lost veteran southpaw CC Sabathia for a while to a hamstring injury, the New York Yankees look to at least salvage a series win against the Los Angeles Angels tonight. ESPN will carry the late contest beginning at 10 PM (ET), New York a -135 favorite behind Michael Pineda with Matt Shoemaker on tap for the Angels.

Aaron Judge cracked a 2-run homer in the eighth to lead New York to its sixth consecutive win in Monday’s series opener, a game 5Dimes closed the Yankees on a -135 money line. Eric Young Jr. helped the Angels into victory lane in Game 2, driving in a pair of runs with a solo homer and walk-off infield single in the 11th for a 3-2 decision. The results leave the two teams with eight straight ‘under’ winners in Anaheim.

Shoemaker Seeking First Career Win Vs. Yanks

Pineda bounced back from a rough outing in Toronto with an outstanding effort against the Red Sox last Thursday, allowing just four hits and one unearned run in seven innings.  It marked his sixth quality start in the last seven assignments and left the Yankees 9-3 in his appearances, good enough for +5.3 units against the MLB odds. He has just one outing in Anaheim on his career ledger, and that came during his 2011 rookie season with the Mariners (5 IP, 7 ER).

Shoemaker has also been on a good run recently with five victories in his last six starts and the Halos 9-4 (+5.5) behind the former Eastern Michigan standout. The Angels are 5-1 when he takes the home mound, Shoemaker serving up just five homers in 34 innings at this park. Both of his career starts vs. the Yankees went into the loss column, however, and Chris Carter has a pair of homers among his three hits in eight at-bats.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Crew chief Gerry Davis will be calling balls and strikes for the 1,127th regular-season game in his 36-year career. The St. Louis native is 3-7-2 O/U/P this season and will be seeing the Yankees and Angels for the first time in 2017. Both of his plate assignments at the Big A last year were ‘over’ winners and Angels losses, but home teams are 9-3 this time around when he’s behind the mask.

Temps in the low 80s for the start of the game with clear skies and a light WSW breeze (out to right-center) is the forecast. I’m feeling that ‘under’ trend in the rivalry is about to end and will play the ‘over’ for my free baseball pick.
