The Kansas City Royals are worthy home favorites against the Texas Rangers Monday night, but only playable if their most recent acquisition lands back in the lineup.

Misery Continues
Texas is 3-4 on its current 10-game road trip, as it managed to score just two combined runs in losing back-to-back contests against the Houston Astros over the weekend, with the 'under' cashing in each of those affairs.

Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is hitting .439 during a current 17-game hit streak against the Royals, which is important to consider when making your MLB picks, but the club has scored three or fewer runs in 16 of its last 21 contests.

Since 2012, the franchise is a forgettable 41-72 versus teams with a winning record in the second half of the season.

Keep a Close Eye on the Starting Lineup
Kansas City begins a new week with a half-game advantage over the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central standings, which can’t be ignored when looking over the MLB betting odds, as it prepares to face the worst team in the league.

Royals manager Ned Yost has stated that he hopes designated hitter Josh Willingham can return to the lineup Tuesday, but he may want to write his name on the card in this affair, as he’s 8 for 24 with four home runs in his career against tonight’s opposing starter.

It’s important to point out that the squad has dropped all six of its games as home favorites of -175 to -200 during the 2014 campaign.

Tonight's starting pitcher for the Texas Rangers is Colby Lewis (9-11, 5.44 ERA) who snapped a personal three-game losing streak last time out, as he registered a 12-4 complete game victory on the road against the Seattle Mariners.

The right-hander is 7-3 with a 3.69 ERA in 11 road efforts, with opposing hitters batting .281 against him (.344 at home).

In six lifetime games (five starts) versus the Royals, Lewis has compiled a 1-3 record and 6.67 ERA.

Royals starting pitcher Yordano Ventura (10-9, 3.40 ERA) returns to the mound after missing a turn in the rotation due to mid-back tightness, as he ended up with a 2-1 record and 2.92 ERA in four efforts last month.

The right-hander is 9-0 with a 2.17 ERA when Kansas City scores three or more runs during his starts, while he’s 0-9 with a 4.80 ERA when receiving zero to two runs of support.

Ventura leads MLB rookies with 17 quality starts and his 7.72 strikeouts per 9.0 IP ranks third all-time by a Royals rookie.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Royals as one of their MLB picks, as the Rangers are 9-20 in their last 29 games as road underdogs.

With that being said, I’m only willing to back Kansas City at this type of price if Willingham is able to return to the lineup.
