It all comes down to this as the New York Mets take on the Kansas City Royals. Right now the odds for the series are pretty much dead even with this looking like to be a really tight matchup.

MLB odds
MLB odds makers have come out with a number of seven on the total for this first game. It makes a little bit of sense considering you have two frontline starters taking the mound. Still, for my MLB pick for this game I'm going to take over this total. There are still pretty good odds out there, but for the most part the higher juice is on the over, best odds being at Pinnacle Sports and 5 Dimes -115.

New York Mets
Matt Harvey takes the mound for New York and comes in with a 2.71 ERA, 1.02 whip, 180 strikeouts, and a 13-8 record. In the postseason he has been stellar allowing four earned runs over 11 hits in winning his two contests against the Dodgers and the Cubs with a 2.84 ERA. What might be scary for the Royals is that Harvey might be their third-best pitcher. The good thing for the Royals though is that if you're going to get to Harvey it is going to be when he is on the road where his ERA jumps to 3.42 and batters hitting .230 against him. Still, not bad numbers, but I like the Royals and their quality at-bats to continue tonight at home.

At the plate the Mets average 4.25 runs per game, hit .244 as a team, and have an OPS of .713. In the last four games of the playoffs they have been outstanding scoring four, four, five, and then eight runs against the Chicago Cubs. They just seem to be clicking right now, and if they continue staying patient at the plate I expect them to put up some runs tonight. Do I even need to mention Daniel Murphy?

Kansas City Royals
Edinson Volquez takes the mound for Kansas City and comes in with a 3.55 ERA, 1.31 whip, 155 strikeouts, and a 13-9 record. In the postseason he has been a bit subpar allowing eight earned runs off of 10 hits in just over 16 innings of work for a 4.32 ERA. Surprisingly though batters are only hitting .179 against them in this postseason. This should be an interesting matchup tonight against the Mets team that is pretty hot and a pitcher in Volquez  that can be either hot or cold. At home he has been good this season but I just don't see him completely shutting down the Mets.

Kansas City averages 4.55 runs per game, hits for a .261 average, and have an OPS of .737. They swung the bats extremely well against the Toronto Blue Jays with really only one bad game in game five. They simply do everything right on offense and will make Harvey work every pitch. They have had a lot of clutch at-bats in this postseason and I expect that to continue tonight.

I am not overly surprise at this really low line, but I really expect these offenses to be ready in this first game of the World Series. For one of your MLB picks I suggest taking the over in game one and sit back and enjoy what should be a very tight series.
