The Houston Astros are right in the thick of the hunt for the AL West and today they travel to take on Oakland. Read on as our expert handicapper provides his MLB Pick.

Houston Astros vs Oakland A's
Currently, the posted MLB odds have Oakland as a +120 underdog like at Bet Online sports book. For my MLB pick, I like the value in backing Oakland today as they have a good starting pitcher and their offense can be scrappy at times. This a good spot to take a shot on the live home underdog.

Oakland A's
Kendall Graveman gets the start for Oakland and comes in with a 4.37 ERA and 1.43 whip with Oakland hitting .251 as a team which ranks 19th in the major leagues. Offensively there is not a lot to like about this Oakland team as a rank mostly from the middle to the bottom of the league in a lot of offensive categories. However, they are not the worst hitting team in the major leagues and they don't strike out very much ranking third in strikeouts per game. Graveman is better than his current numbers indicate and pitched well against this same Houston team at Houston just prior to the All-Star break allowing two earned runs off of five hits in eight innings. He has had some struggles this season but recently he seems to be coming around and he does carry a 2.97 ERA at home with batters hitting just .246 against him. Look for him to have a solid quality start to give Oakland every chance to win today in a game that I think can go either way.

Houston Astros
Mike Fiers takes the mound for Houston and comes in with a 4.35 ERA and 1.35 whip with Houston hitting .244 as a team which ranks 24th in the major leagues. Except for batting average, this Houston offense is a bit better across the board when compared Oakland but they strike out at an alarming rate ranking second to last in the major leagues in strikeouts per game. This a well-rounded baseball team but on the offensive end they are not particularly dominating and rank mostly in the middle of the league in most categories ranking 15th in runs per game, 16th in OPS, and 23rd in hits per game so there is not a lot for Graveman to be intimidated about. Fiers pitched very well at home against this same Oakland team earlier this season but in his seven road appearances this year he has struggled with an ERA just under 6.00 and batters hitting an astounding .338 against him.  Although he has the capability of keeping the damage to a minimum at the same time I don't see Houston scoring a lot of off Graveman which once again puts the betting value on backing Oakland.
