Mother Nature will be a factor in today’s NLDS Game 4 in Chicago, where the Cubs are favored on the MLB odds to eliminate the Washington Nationals from the postseason.

MLB Season Record: 86-88-4 (+1.63)

One half of the NLCS has been decided after the Los Angeles Dodgers swept past the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday. Now we’ll see if LA’s opponent is going to be the Chicago Cubs with a victory on Tuesday, or if the Washington Nationals can push the NLDS back to D.C. for a fifth and deciding game on Thursday.

Chicago holds a 2-1 lead in the series after the same 2-1 winning score Monday in front of a packed house at Wrigley Field. Max Scherzer stifled Cubs hitters early, but they pushed across late runs to leave the Nationals on the brink of elimination after they became the first team to clinch a division title and playoff spot. First pitch today is set for 5:38 PM (ET), Jake Arrieta (14-10, 3.53) delivering that toss for Chicago against Washington’s Tanner Roark (13-11, 4.67). 5Dimes is offering Chicago at -150 with 7½ for the scoreboard target.

Arrieta Pitching On 14 Days Of Rest

Every starting pitcher in this series has worked into the sixth inning, unlike the quicker hooks we saw in the AL matchups. That may change tonight, however, since we do not expect Dusty Baker to be patient with Roark and the Nationals down 2-1. Roark lost his final two starts of the regular season, those outings on the road in Philly and Atlanta, but was a better pitcher on the road than at home in 2017. The former Illinois standout was the better pitcher at Wrigley in early August when he beat the Cubs, 4-2, and he has mastered Jason Heyward over the years (0-for-18).

Arrieta makes his 2017 postseason debut after making four starts in the 2016 playoffs. Chicago split those outings while he worked a 3.63 ERA. The ol’ Horned Frog hasn’t pitched in a couple of weeks (hamstring) and hasn’t pitched at Wrigley Field since the end of August when he blanked the Pirates for six innings to pick up the win as -235 chalk on the MLB odds. Arrieta lost his only appearance vs. the Nationals this year, but has held Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman to a combined 9-for-35 (.257) without a long ball.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Laz Diaz, in his 10th postseason series, has the dish for today’s game following a level 15-15-1 (O/U/P) record during the regular campaign. He worked an ‘under’ winner on Chicago’s North Side earlier this season, and home favorites were 11-7 with Diaz calling balls and strikes.

Rain is all over the afternoon forecast for Chicago, and there’s a very good chance this game is delayed at some point. The weatherman is also calling for windy conditions with a 14-18 blow from the NE (in from center). Give me the ‘under’ for my free baseball pick.

**UPDATE: Not much to update: more rain in Chicago forecast along with the same wind direction, starting pitchers the same along with the money line and total not moving much at all.
