Monday was originally a day of rest for the Indians and Red Sox, but they’ll make up a rainout instead with the MLB odds hovering around a pick ‘em at Fenway Park.

Their series finale in Boston spoiled by rain a little less than two weeks ago, the Indians and Red Sox will give up an off day to work in the makeup on Monday. Cleveland is sending Trevor Bauer (10-8, 4.79) to the mound for the 6:10 PM (ET) start, Boston countering with   Doug Fister (2-5, 5.03), and it’s close to a pick ‘em with 5Dimes selling the Indians at -106 and 10 for the total.

Both sides enter the clash leading their divisions and on mini win streaks. Cleveland has won three in a row to take a 4½-game lead over Minnesota in the AL Central, the Tribe continuing their road trip tomorrow against the Twins. Boston took the final two from the Yankees in New York over the weekend to open up a 5½-game lead in the AL East.

Fenway Has Been Rough On Bauer
Bauer’s last four starts came at home, the Indians winning three of them. The former UCLA standout should’ve have a 4th-straight victory last Wednesday vs. the Rockies and leaving with a 2-1 lead before Cody Allen suffered a rare blown save, Colorado eventually winning it in the 12th. Bauer should’ve started the contest in Boston that was postponed, and his only two previous appearances at Fenway Park were disasters with the righthander working a combined 6.2 innings and giving up nine runs.

Fister has won his last two starts with nice efforts after dropping three of his first four assignments for Boston. He’s working with a little extra rest after beating the White Sox eight days ago, Fister and the Red Sox pronounced -205 favorites on the MLB odds in the 6-3 final. The old Fresno State star saw plenty of the Indians while he was with Detroit earlier in his career, going 7-3 with a 3.07 ERA in 17 starts.

Rivalry Trends, Mother Nature & A Free Pick
Fenway has been an inhospitable venue for the Indians the last decade or so, Boston winning 28 of the last 41 on this diamond after taking the two games that were played here a short while ago. Including Game 3 of the ALDS last October, totals have run 1-4-1 O/U/P the last six in Beantown. As quick as the makeup game comes about, the clubs will get together again even sooner with a 4-game series beginning at Progressive Field a week from today.

It will be cloudy in Boston today, but there’s no chance for the makeup to be rained out. Of more concern is the 8-10 mph southerly breeze that could give fly balls headed to the Green Monster a little extra push. Despite not having much faith in Fister, I’ll take the Beantowners for my free baseball pick.
