Why the Mets vs Giants Should be on Your MLB Picks Radar

Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom

A late-afternoon tilt in San Francisco is going off as a pick ‘em on the MLB odds as the New York Mets look to win their second straight series from the Giants.

NY Mets vs SF Giants

A tough April and May for the San Francisco Giants is being followed by a really ugly June. The G-Men have dropped 10 of their last 11 and appear doomed for the NL West cellar this year as they prepare for the second of a 3-game home set against the New York Mets (7:15 PM ET). Jacob deGrom (6-3, 3.94) and Johnny Cueto (5-7, 4.42) are the scheduled starters for both sides in a game that is a pick ‘em on the MLB odds with 7½ for the total.

New York’s lineup stacked Seth Lugo to a 7-1 lead in the second inning last night, and the Mets coasted to an 11-4 decision in a game BetOnline closed them as +111 underdogs. It was the fifth time in the last six meetings New York came out on top after taking 2-of-3 from the Giants at Citi Field about six weeks ago. The clubs split four in San Francisco last season with three of those games cashing ‘over’ tickets, including starts by both deGrom and Cueto.

Mets Expecting deGrom’s AT&T Success To Continue

deGrom’s last two starts have been masterpieces, the 29-year-old allowing a grand total of eight hits and one earned run over 17 innings. He has struggled at times away from home, however, the righty posting a 5.19 ERA in those seven assignments compared to 2.76 at Citi Field. He was so-so when facing the Giants in New York (6 IP, 3 ER), taking a no-decision in a game the Mets won in the ninth but has won three of his four efforts in San Francisco while posting a 3.42 ERA.

Cueto has just one win on his ledger since the middle of May, the Giants going 2-5 in those contests while the Dominican pitched to a 4.75 ERA. The two most recent starts, both losses, came with his offense supplying a grand total of two runs of support. He beat the Mets once as a Giant last season with seven strong innings, Curtis Granderson taking him deep three times in 14 at bats over the years.

Umpire Notes, Mother Nature & A Free Pick

Marvin Hudson should be the man behind the mask for the umpire crew tonight. The Georgia native was last seen behind the dish in this park during Game 4 of the NLDS this past October, a Cubs victory over the Giants that went past the total, and he is 7-4 O/U record for the 2017 season into this affair. Hudson has worked two Chicago games this year, both at Wrigley and each one cashing ‘over’ tickets.

Partly cloudy skies, temps in the mid-60s and a 15-20 mph WSW wind (out to left-center) is the forecast for the late-afternoon start in San Fran. I’m going with the hotter pitcher for my free baseball pick with a play on New York.
