The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees go again Sunday following a hostile matchup on Saturday. Check out our White Sox-Yankees picks.

Chicago and New York play a doubleheader Sunday at Yankee Stadium following a weather-related postponement earlier this weekend. Will the circumstances of a marathon day at the ballpark lead to an advantage for the offenses against worn-down pitching in the evening affair?

Here are my MLB picks and predictions for Sunday night’s game between the White Sox and Yankees (odds via DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

White Sox vs. Yankees Odds

White Sox vs. Yankees Odds Analysis

The Yankees opened at -175 for Game 2 of Sunday’s doubleheader, with the gap slimming slightly since then at DraftKings to Yankees -160. Eighty-four percent of the cash has gone toward the Yankees despite that line movement. New York is -1.5 (+120) on the run line, against which it's 21-18 on the season. The Yankees have the best outright record in the majors this season at 29-10. The White Sox are middling at 19-20 overall.

The total opened at 9 and has remained firm. The ticket split is nearly even on total bets, but the Under has seen 78% of the cash. Yankees games are 18-21 toward the Over this season, while contests involving the White Sox have gone 16-21-2 on Overs.

White Sox vs. Yankees Projected Pitchers

Michael Kopech (0-1, 1.54 ERA, 0.943 WHIP) vs. Luis Severino (3-0, 3.63 ERA, 1.183 WHIP)

Kopech returns from the paternity list Sunday night and will be greeted by a loaded Yankees lineup. He’s been an effective starting arm for the White Sox this season and has finally begun to navigate deeper into his games as of late, with his last two starts representing the only ones on the year in which he has traversed a full six innings. His team will need that type of length from him Sunday night if the bullpen is required to pitch several innings in relief of Johnny Cueto during the afternoon contest.

Severino is enjoying a healthy season for the first time in several years. He had his best outing of the season in his last start, going six innings of one-run baseball while striking out seven Baltimore Orioles. Similar to Kopech, that was only Severino’s second start of six innings this season. If the bullpens come into play following inefficient outings from both pitchers Sunday, that could be a major factor in the game’s outcome.

White Sox vs. Yankees ML Pick

Yankees (-160)

The Yankees' offense has been largely responsible for guiding the team’s tremendous start to the season, ranking third in MLB with 4.97 runs scored per game. That offense should have an opportunity to unload on the national stage of Sunday Night Baseball if it can get into the White Sox bullpen early by working counts against Kopech.

Though Kopech has elite stuff, he’s been inconsistent with his efficiency. Coming off the paternity list Sunday, Kopech will pitch for the first time in a full week. He’ll be rested - though any new parent might debate that statement - but he should lack some sharpness against the Bronx Bombers?

The Yankees should do enough against Kopech to earn several innings against a White Sox bullpen that owns a mediocre 4.00 ERA on the season. That should push the Yankees over the top in this one.

White Sox vs. Yankees RL Pick

Yankees -1.5 (+120)

The Yankees won’t just win against the White Sox, they’ll cover. New York has scored five or more runs in nine of its last 11 games, boasting an offense that has been as consistent as it's been powerful.

The other factor in favoring the Yankees on the run line is the weaker nature of Chicago's offense this season. The White Sox simply haven't scored to their capabilities so far in 2022.

Severino has been solid enough that he should be able to keep them in check to the tune of two or three runs allowed before turning things over to a Yankees bullpen that has been one of the better units in the league this season.

White Sox vs. Yankees O/U Pick

Over 9 (-105)

Both pitchers have relatively struggled to go deep into games this season and face quality lineups on Sunday.

The Yankees’ successes at the plate this year are obvious and well-documented. At just 3.59 runs per game, Chicago ranks toward the bottom of the league in scoring but has a lineup that is certainly capable of much more.

New York's lineup should carry the load against Kopech and subsequently against a White Sox bullpen that hasn’t been a strength on the season. Chicago’s relief options could be limited, too, after backing up Cueto in the day game.

That’s a combination that lends itself to a strong night for the New York offense. Chicago would need to contribute a few runs for the Over to cash, but the Yankees should do the rest.

White Sox vs. Yankees Prop Bet

Severino Under 5.5 strikeouts (+100)

Though I predict a successful day for the Yankees in general, I’m not necessarily high on either side’s pitching. The White Sox haven’t had the offensive season they had hoped for thus far, but one area in which the Chicago lineup has been strong is its ability to avoid the strikeout.

White Sox hitters have averaged just 7.41 strikeouts per game this season, which rank as the second-best mark in MLB. Severino has exceeded the 5.5 total in his last two starts but did so only once in his previous five outings. Against a team that has been stingy at the plate this year, I see Severino falling just short of the number at even money odds.
