Both the Twins and White Sox are having trouble scoring as of late. So even though John Danks is throwing for Chicago at Target Field Monday night, runs still might be hard to come by.
White Sox-Twins Monday Betting Odds
As of early Monday AM the best line we could find on Minnesota and Tommy Milone was the -137 offered at BetOnline, while WagerWeb was giving Chicago and fellow lefty John Danks +130. And most books listed the total on tonight's game at 8.5 runs.
Minnesota started hot this season under new manager Paul Molitor, but seems to be cooling. The Twins just lost a series at home to the Cubs, falling Sunday 8-0, and are now 0-4-2 over their last six series and 7-13 over their last 20 games.
At 37-32 Minnesota sits in second place in the AL Central, 3.5 games behind division-leading Kansas City. The Twins also cling to a half-game lead over Texas in the battle for the second American League wild-card spot.
Minnesota has played 11 UNDERS in its last 15 games, mainly because the bats have gone cold; the Twins have been held to two or fewer runs 11 times during that span.
Chicago just took two of three games at home from Texas over the weekend, winning Sunday 3-2 on Gordon Beckham's home run in the bottom of the 11th inning. But prior to Saturday the Sox had lost eight in a row.
At 30-38 Chicago sits in last place in the AL Central, and trails Minnesota by 6.5 games in that wild-card race.
The White Sox have also played 10 UNDERS in their last 13 games, mainly because their bats have also gone chilly, topping three runs just four times in that span.
Minnesota leads this season series seven games to three, with the totals splitting 5-5.
Also, the Twins are 23-14 at home this season, while the Sox are 12-23 on the road.
Milone (3-1, 3.67) is three-for-seven on quality starts this season, and two-for-three since rejoining the rotation earlier this month. Last Wednesday he held St. Louis to one run through seven innings, and over his last three starts he's allowed just five earned runs through 19 innings. On the season Minnesota is 4-3 in Milone's starts, with the totals going 4-3.
Since the beginning of last season, which he began with Oakland, Milone has started three times against the White Sox, allowing four runs through 17 1/3 innings; his teams only won one of those games, but two of them played UNDER.
Danks (3-7, 5.16) is just four-for-13 on quality starts this season, and one for his last three. Last Wednesday he held Pittsburgh to three runs through seven innings, but over his last three starts he's allowed 12 ER and 24 hits through 17 innings. For the season Danks has allowed 88 hits, including 11 homers, through 75 innings; Chicago is 5-8 in Danks' starts, although the UNDERS are 8-4.
Since the beginning of last season Danks has started four times against the Twins, and gotten rocked to the tune of 20 ER through 19 innings; the Sox lost three of those games, and all four played OVER.
Monday's Batting Splits
Minnesota ranks 12th in the Majors this season against left-handed pitching with a .316 team OBP, while Chicago ranks dead last against lefties with a pathetic .252 team OBP.
Ballpark Totals Factor
Games played at Target Field this season are 19-17 on the OVERS, averaging a rather normal 8.3 runs per.
Sox-Twins Monday Free Picks
Milone owns the edge in the pitching match-up, and Chicago's lineup stinks against lefties. We like the Twins tonight. Also, both teams are trending UNDER as of late, with bats gone cold.
MLB Picks: Minnesota -137 at BetOnline and UNDER 8.5 runs (+111) at Pinnacle
