One of the most important questions to ask yourself before locking in your MLB picks today is if the red-hot bats of the Boston Red Sox will overcompensate for their pitching issues.

Series Finale at Fenway Park on Sunday
Kansas City and Boston will meet on Sunday in the finale of a four game series. Boston has won two of the first three, and is now 4-2 versus the Royals in 2015. The opening pitch at Fenway Park in Boston is slated for 1:35 PM ET.

Sunday's Starting Pitchers
Edinson Volquez will be on the mound for Kansas City today. The hard throwing right-hander has gone 17-8 in his team starts this season with a very good 3.20 ERA. Volquez has been especially tough in his seven day game starts, posting a stellar 2.43 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. The Royals hurler has allowed 2 earned runs or less in seven of his previous nine starts.

Southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez gets the starting assignment on Sunday for Boston. Rodriguez has seen all six of his starts during day games go over the total this year. He’s been a main contributor to the high scoring games, evidenced by a gigantic 10.66 ERA and 1.81 WHIP in those six matinee affairs. Rodriguez has gone 7-1 over the total in eight starts at home in 2015 with a lofty 4.63 ERA.

Tale of the Tape
Kansas enters today with the best record (74-48/.607) in the American League. Although, it must be noted, the majority of their success has come at home and versus right-handed starting pitchers. The Royals are 42-20 at home and 51-27 versus right-handed starting pitchers this year. Contrarily, they’re 32-28 on the road and 23-21 versus left-handed starters. The latter numbers aren’t bad by any stretch of the imagination but just aren’t as dominant. The Royals entered this series on a five game win streak, and they’ve gone 11-4 in their last fifteen games. Kansas City is 23-14 this season in day games.

The Red Sox bats have been sizzling hot over their previous fourteen games. During that stretch, they’ve averaged an outstanding 7.6 runs and 12.5 hits per game. Unfortunately, their season long pitching struggles reared its ugly head during this recent torrid offensive stretch, and with all considered, Boston went a somewhat disappointing 8-6 in those fourteen games. According to current MLB betting odds at 5Dimes, Boston is -103 on the money line today. The Red Sox have gone a dismal 24-45 since 2014 at home when they’re +125 to -125 on the money line.

Final Take
Although I don’t consider my selection on today’s game a slam dunk, my small lean for one of Sunday’s MLB picks favors Kansas City.

MLB Picks: Kansas City -107
