Wednesday's Top Picks That Must Be Included On Your MLB Ticket

Brian Dozier Celebrates Another Run

With the quality of starting pitching very low tonight in the MLB, betting totals are listed quite high. See which direction we take when we provide you with our coveted MLB Picks of the Day for Wednesday.

Kansas City Royals vs Minnesota Twins

Dozier on an Epic Tear
The Minnesota Twins might be a laughing stock this season once again as they possess a record of 51-88, but lately, Brian Dozier has taken the spotlight away from their chronic losing and put it on himself with his amazing play as of late. Dozier is one home run away from being the 2nd-second baseman in MLB history to hit 40 home runs. What's killing Minnesota is their pitching. The Twins have allowed an amazing 56 runs in their last 5 games and allowing double-figure runs in each of these games. Although this is difficult to believe, it's true. Can the defending World Series Champion, Kansas City Royals (72-66) capitalize on this fact as K.C. seeks a wild card berth with time running out in the season?

The Run of a Lifetime
This game can lead to the over the total with the combination of opposing offenses against the Minnesota Twins and the record-breaking play of Brian Dozier. Dozier is having the run of a lifetime and we don't know when it will stop.

In his last 8 games, Dozier has 9 home runs and 14 RBI's. He's also increased his batting average from .270 to .278 during this period of time as he's hitting .444 in the month of September. For the season, Dozier has 39 HR, 92 RBI, and a .278 BA. Of course, this stretch of outstanding play will come to an end, but we don't know when. We also don't know when the Twins will allow less than 10 runs in a game defensively and the combination of both questions makes the over the total in this game quite appealing.

I'm going to keep it simple with this game, my MLB pick is going to the under as previous play basically forces the bettor to choose over the total despite the outstanding pitching of Kansas City Royals starter, Danny Duffy (11-2, 3.13 ERA)

Philadelphia Phillies vs Miami Marlins

Marlins Are Fading Fast
At 68-71 and having lost 9 out of their last 10 games, the Miami Marlins can forget about the playoffs as they've gotten cold at the wrong time. Tonight, they also have the unenviable task of facing one of the better starters on the Philadelphia Phillies pitching staff in Jeremy Hellickson (10-8, 3.88 ERA). This is also an opportunity for Hellickson to get back on track as he's pitched poorly in his last 2 starts, but facing a team in the Marlins with no momentum and confidence whatsoever.

We take a deeper look at Hellickson and see that he's had great success against Miami. In 25 1/3 innings, Hellickson has allowed  6 runs on 19 hits and has walked just 3 batters against Miami Marlins hitting. This appears to be the perfect spot for Jeremy Hellickson and the Phillies and at a very desirable betting price across the MLB odds board.

The Phillies have young developing talent in players such as Odubel Herrera and Maikel Franco, but a player to watch in this game is Cesar Hernandez.

Hernandez doesn't possess a lot of power, but he leads the Phillies in hitting at .287, is a .322 hitter on the road, and also hits Miami well. In 58 at-bats, Hernandez is hitting .328 against the Fish. His job is to get on base and allow guys like Maikel Franco (22 HR, 73 RBI) to knock him in. This is a great spot for the Fightin Phils as Miami has simply called it a season and we're still in the early stages of the month of September. You get great value here with the Phillies as an actual betting underdog.
