For today’s Pitcher Report we will examine against the MLB odds how three different pitchers will react based on the results of last night’s games and what their impact could be in three games.

Our first contest is looking into how a slumping team reacts to a historic comeback and if they can build momentum. The second encounter is about coming off a close loss to a hated rival and lastly is how two hurlers in the same game are after opposite outcomes.

This should be the info you need for making sports picks today!

Nationals vs. Braves: Will Jordan Zimmermann Make Unthinkable Win Matter for Nationals?
If Washington was on your MLB picks list, after two innings last night in Atlanta, you certainly had it chalked up as an L. The Nationals trailed 9-1 and the World Series contenders were on their way to a seventh straight loss. Yet, for whatever reason this time Washington did not give up and when washed up Dan Uggla hit a three-run homer, the Nats were on to a 13-12 victory, the largest-ever comeback in franchise history.

What MLB baseball handicappers want to know is this is where Jordan Zimmermann (1-2, 5.23 ERA) finally steps up? The right-hander is has not done the job thus far in 2015 for this vaunted pitching staff and his curve and slider has not had the usual bite and he has missed his fastball locations plenty of time. Washington has a chance to make last night a launching point to their season or have it be just a trivia question. Zimmermann and the Nationals are 34-13 in night games recently and if they are the quality of team they are supposed to be, they win in Atlanta as -115 favorites versus the betting odds.

Grade – C (For Washington)

Giants vs. Dodgers: Dodgers Turn to Greinke as Stopper
The Los Angeles Dodgers were seeking to return the favor against the Giants who swept them in San Fran last week, but for a second time, Clayton Kershaw and his teammates could not solve Madison Bumgarner and lost. The focus for Don Mattingly’s squad is now just winning the series. The sportsbooks MLB odds suggest L.A. is in pretty good hands, with Zack Greinke toeing the rubber for his team.

The Dodgers were released as -180 home favorites and that figure has shot up over -200. Though Grienke’s demeanor is placid on the outside, in the past three years he is 25-8 if his club is off a loss. (Team’s record) For whatever team he’s pitched for at home in the National League, if the opposing offense is not strong, Greinke is 24-4 if they are batting below .250. (Team’s record) Finally, while some pitchers do not handle the role of big favorite, this right-hander is a scintillating 31-6 as a chalky favorite of -175 to -250 in his career. (Team's Record)

Grade – A (For L.A. Dodgers)

Astros vs. Padres: Which Hurler Does the Job in San Diego?
Houston is having a monster month at 13-7 and what has been particularly impressive is their 9-2 road record (+9.3 units) and on the brink of sweeping two away series and their first-ever at Petco Park. The Astros are a short underdog in SoCal and should feel confident behind Dallas Keuchel (2-0, 0.62), who hasn't allowed a run in 15 innings over his last two starts.

Keuchel will be opposed by Andrew Cashner (1-3, 2.63), who has not gotten good fielding support as half of his 14 runs allowed have been earned, but the tall right-hander has given up a long ball per game to date which has caused him to have a losing record. Cashner is a tough customer at Petco with a 1.44 ERA, allowing two or fewer earned runs in 20 straight starts.

This is no easy prediction because the Astros are soaring and have a starting pitcher, who is supremely confident, but I prefer Cashner today and the Padres are a perfect 8-0 when playing into double home revenge and find a way to win.

Grade – C (For San Diego)
