Our MLB handicapping professional shares his top two totals selections of the day on Wednesday’s card as he covers totals in games between the Dodgers/A’s and Nationals/Rockies.

Dodgers (Wood) vs. A’s (Chavez) 3:35 PM ET
Alex Wood has been a disappointment for the Dodgers so far since coming over in a trade from Atlanta. The southpaw hurler has posted a lofty 5.10 ERA and 1.47 WHIP during his previous three starts. The Dodgers have gone 9-3 over the total in their last twelve games, and have a superb .806 OPS during their previous seven.

Jesse Chavez has been in poor form over his previous five starts with a 6.57 ERA and 1.78 WHIP. Oakland has allowed 7.4 runs per game and opponents had a mammoth .877 OPS during their previous seven outings.

The home plate umpire for this afternoon’s game will be Tim Timmons. He’s gone 51-31 (62.2%) over the total when calling balls and strikes since 2013. I like this matinee game to be a high scoring affair for one of my MLB picks. According to the MLB betting odds at Pinnacle, they require the least amount of juice for this specific wager.

MLB Pick: A’s and Dodgers over 8.0 (-105) at Pinnacle

Nationals (Strasburg) vs. Rockies (De La Rosa) 8:40 PM ET
Steven Strasburg has began to resemble the dominating pitcher he was two years ago during recent starts. However, he’s made two starts at Coors Field in his still fairly young career, and compiled a giant 11.33 ERA during those outings.

Jorge De La Rosa has really struggled mightily at hitter friendly Coors Field in 2015. De La Rosa has a poor 6.62 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in ten home starts. If he expects any help from the Rockies bullpen, well, good luck with that. The Rockies relievers have a terrible 5.21 ERA and 1.55 WHIP at home. Colorado is averaging 5.5 runs per game, possesses a team batting average of .303, and has an excellent .842 OPS at home this season.

I don’t know if we’ll see the kind of offensive fireworks that were displayed in Tuesday’s 15-6 win by Washington. Even so, I still like this game to be a high scoring affair. The current MLB betting odds at 5Dimes provides us with top betting value.

MLB Pick: Nationals and Rockies over 10.0 (+105) at 5Dimes
