There are some really reliable pitchers strolling out to the mound on this Wednesday. Let’s see if this will have any effect on our betting picks for today.

New York Yankees (32-31) vs. Seattle Mariners (34-30)
Tanaka Time
He didn’t get that the matchup that he wanted with Iwakuma, but the Yankees still beat the Seattle Mariners last night 3-2 and the great Masahiro Tanaka (9-1, 2.02) takes the mound as a huge betting favorite on the road against the Mariners. Tanaka has garnered so much attention and lived up to the hype. I even think that the odds makers are getting carried away. Nonetheless, this is a pitcher that I like to back in almost every situation.

Tanaka has provided the Yankees with a quality outing in 10 out of 11 starts and the one to be considered “non-quality” was a game in which he allowed 3 earned runs in 6 innings versus the Chicago Cubs.

No team in the majors has had the ability of solving the Masahiro Tanaka’s arrival to the United States and I don’t think that it will happen here. Although this is true, the Yankees offense has been very weak as of lately and the Yankees will have to work for this win.

In last night’s game, Jacoby Ellsbury was the hero as he lined a base hit to drive in Derek Jeter and that was the winning run in the game. New York need’s their new acquisitions to come up big like Ellsbury did as this team needs a jolt of energy. In the 1st inning, Carlos Beltran had an RBI double to also score Derek Jeter and the Yankees come into this game with some confidence and possibly the best pitcher in baseball.

MLB Pick: New York -170 at 5 Dimes (Yankees aren’t good enough to take as a runline but still worth the risk)

Los Angeles Dodgers (35-31) vs. Cincinnati Reds (29-34)
No Run Support
Although Johnny Cueto (5-5, 1.97) sports an ERA under 2.00 and still has just a .500 record, if you get in him in a situation like this, against a talented an inconsistent team like the Dodgers and at appealing betting odds, you take him.

In his last 4 starts, Cueto has been less than excellent as he’s allowed 16 runs in 24 innings and 3 of those starts were really poor. The Reds are a disappointing team whose offense is sputtering. They’re leadoff man, Billy Hamilton, doesn’t even have a .300 on-base percentage. He can be the fastest man in the world, but if he doesn’t get on base and set the tone for Cincy, they’re going to be a losing team.

Cincinnati faces as Dodgers team with all of the talent in the world with the likes of Gordon, Puig, Gonzalez, Ramirez, and Kemp, but are only 4 games above .500.  That said, the Dodgers are coming off of a 6-1 win over the Reds. The core of their lineup all contributed as Adrian Gonzalez led the way with 2 doubles.

Cincinnati’s pitchers have received little run support as they rank 29th in the league in runs and 28th in on-base percentage, but were going to overlook that and select the Reds and Cueto at home.

MLB Pick: Cincinnati -123 at 5 Dimes
