There’s a handful of good pitching matchups on tap for Wednesday’s slate of MLB games. Let’s see how or if they come into effect when placing our bets. It’s time for MLB picks of the day.

Joe C. Record: 74-80 -27.82 Units: Close, But No Cigar
We split on the day as the Pittsburgh Pirates took care of the San Diego Padres with ease, and the New York Mets bullpen let us down as Zack Wheeler pitched well. Just the same, I’ll take 16-4 in my last 20 games.

Kansas City Royals (28-30) at St. Louis Cardinals (30-29): Good Pitching Wins Games
We’re in a perfect spot to take Adam Wainwright (8-3, 2.32) and the St. Louis Cardinals, as the odds are sort of low due to the Royals taking the first two games of this series, and outscoring the Cardinals 14-7 in the time. This is a perfect spot for the Wainwright, who is a career 107-60 with a 3.07 ERA, to stop the bleeding. St. Louis has a much better team than what their record indicates. That said, Wainwright is coming off of a bad start against San Francisco which saw his ERA balloon from 1.67 to 2.32. He must pitch to his usual form; the Royals have been tearing the cover off of the baseball lately.

3rd Tier Player
I consider a 3rd tier player a good baseball player that has flashes of brilliance, but not enough to be considered a great baseball player. Players like Alex Gordon and Eric Hosmer fit that mold perfectly. Gordon is a player to watch out for in this game. He’s starting to get in the groove as he’s had home runs in back-to-back games. Gordon is a good contact hitter, and is one of the more reliable players on this Kansas City roster. The Royals' first five hitters are all coming off of a game in which they all scored a run, therefore confidence is high with this squad.

Look for Royals starter Jason Vargas (5-2, 3.39), who has pitched quite well this season, to keep Kansas City in the ball game, but Wainwright is tough to go against, and at these odds. St. Louis wins a close ball game.

Philadelphia Phillies (24-32) at Washington Nationals (28-28)Strasburg vs. Burnett
Both of these pitchers are capable of holding the opposing offenses to a goose egg. Although A.J. Burnett (3-4, 3.79) hasn’t pitched well as of late, he still managed 11 strikeouts in his last start (a 6-5 win by the Phils). The game was a no-decision for Burnett, but he’s due for one of his lockdown performances, and the Nationals aren’t an imposing offensive team.

As for Strasburg, he has the potential to be an elite pitcher, but is always either injured or doesn’t get proper run support. Strasburg is good for 7 innings at best (even on great day) because he specializes in striking out opposing hitters. He’s been reasonably consistent lately. In his last 8 starts, he hasn’t allowed more than 3 runs in a start. Strasburg is also coming off of 9-2 victory over Texas in which he only went 6 innings, but struck out 9 batters, and didn’t allow an earned run. Look for a good game out of Stephen Strasburg tonight. The Nats are coming off of a 7-0 victory over the Phillies on Monday. It was Philadelphia’s fourth straight loss, and the Phils offense has been non-existent since the series with the Mets. Take the 'under' in this game for one of your baseball picks. Some sportsbooks offer it at anywhere from 6.5 to 7 runs. 5 Dimes Sportsbook offers it at 7, therefore I suggest that you grab it.
